I bought it (HP digital camera) 3 weeks ago. The LCD screen stopped working and I’d rather deal with wal-mart than HP. I don’t care if I get store credit. I payed a little over $115 for it.
However, I’ve moved within that time and the receipt is no where to be found. So I have two problems
1: of course, no receipt
2: the wal-mart I bought it from is 5 hours away from the one I want to return it from.
Can I return/exchange it? To be completely honest, I wasn’t too impressed by the camera when it was functioning so if I am able to return it, I will probably spend a little more and get a better camera. Any help? Can I return it without a receipt? Any idea of wal mart policy?
Like I said, I’d really like to deal directly with walmart and not hp since id like a different camera if I can get store credit (at the least) and HP would just repair or replace parts.
I wouldn’t be caught dead shopping at Wal-Mart so I can’t speak to their policies specifically. I have bought and returned items from Target without a receipt for store credit. If you used a credit card, take in your statement showing the purchase for the amount of the camera.
My ex used to take stuff back to Wal Mart all the time without a reciept. If they can find it in thier stock they will give you back the lowest price that it sold for in the last 30? or so days.
In my experience returning things to Wal-Mart (and I worked for them once, eons ago), you’d probably get the credit, which will be in the form of a gift card, and will need to show ID. They put the ID into the system, and when you attempt to return something for a third time (without a receipt), you’ll be flagged in the system as a no-return. And while I’ve never experienced a “lowest price in last 30 days” markdown, the policy I’ve seen is “Whatever it comes up as in the system is what you get.”
This is assuming you have the box and at least most of the original documentation. If you just walk in the with camera, you’re likely out of luck.
Of course, as always, YMWV, and your best bet is just to call the Wal-Mart where you’ll be returning it, and ask.
I work at a Walmart right now, and can tell you that they will take back almost anything, and give you store credit. Heck, we have had returns for stuff that Wallyworld doesn’t even sell that the customer service desk takes up and gives credit for.
As a Customer Service associate (Previous, as of about 2 weeks ago), the official policy is this:
If it comes up on their computers, you can get store credit for it, or exchange it for another camera.
Practically, though, if they scan it, and it doesn’t come up, if you know the store number of the other store, they can call there to get a price for it, or they can look it up in the big computerized item database. Having your box will help IMMENSLY.
If you paid with a credit / debit card take along a statement - they should be able to check their records to confirm, as it’ll have the date and amount, plus your details.
I worked at the customer service/returns desk at Wal-Mart, millions of years ago. The return policy for items without a receipt is:
If it’s an item that Wal-Mart carries: give the customer the lowest sale price from the last 30 days, unless they throw a fuss and the manager tells you to give them what they claim to have paid for it.
If it’s an item that Wal-Mart doesn’t carry: tell the customer they didn’t buy it at Wal-Mart and they can’t return it, unless they throw a fuss and the manager tells you to give them what they claim to have paid for it.
If it’s an item with a K-Mart/Sears/Target/Best Buy/etc. price tag on it: tell the customer they have to return it to that store, unless they throw a fuss and the manager tells you to give them what they claim to have paid for it.
Well, I just returned the camera… you all were right, it was EASY!
I went to the returns desk… they didn’t know what to do, sent me to the camera desk… the camera desk told me to call the wal-mart that I got it from originally and have them give me a copy of the receipt, the store number, and a bunch of other info to exchange…
so then I just went back to the original return desk, told them that the camera people sent me back here so they could call the other wal-mart and get all the original information… as suspected, they didn’t want to so they just refunded me right there (after opening the box for about a half of a second and pretending to look that everything was there.)
I got store credit which was fine, I just went and bought a different camera… We win again!
