Boxing Thread: Kosta Tszyu vs Ben Tackie

I’ve watch Tszyu fight before. I’ve watched Tackie fight before. I’ve heard that Kosta tends to fight to the level of his opponent, so he didn’t look spectacular in previous fight I’ve seen. I’d never watched Tszyu fight anyone of Tackie’s caliber (I missed the Judah fight), so I wasn’t sure that Tszyu could handle Ben. After the fight, I’m not sure if anyone in his division can match him. Should he try to go up and fight Sugar Shane?

It was 12 rounds of great boxing. Both men are good and fought a clean fight. Tszyu, though, owned Ben Tackie. Everytime Tackie took a swing, Kosta would counter with 3 punches. Tszyu would dodge almost every punch, then make Ben pay with laser precision. You have to tip your hat to Ben for not hitting the canvas. I certainly thought he’d go down by the 8th.

I scored the fight 120-108, as did two of the official judges. One judge scored it 119-109.

My question is: which round could possibly have gone to Tackie?

The third round was close, and I’d bet that’s the one the judge gave him.

I think Tszyu will stay at junior welterweight. There’s a ton of talented guys there for him to fight, and I can’t imagine why he’d want any part of Moseley or Forrest. Tszyu is one of my favorite fighters, but I don’t think he’d be a champion at welterweight. His defense isn’t great. His power would be diminished. Moseley’s too fast for him, and Forrest has a similar style but with a lot more reach.

Personally, I’d like to see Tszyu drop Judah again.
