I bet if I poked around for an hour or two I could answer this myself, but what fun would that be for you guys?
While channel surfing I tripped over an episode of the original Star Trek series yesterday: the one where Kirk is vexed by a minuet-dancing alien called “Trelain” [sp?] who turns out to be nothing more than a spoiled child who likes to taunt his pets. (Don’t act dumb. I KNOW you guys know which one I mean.)
Anyway, Trelain’s voice sounded mighty familiar. Is it the same actor who portrays the voice of the old professor in Futurama?
Us non-geeks want to know!

Billy West does the voice of the professor. He was born in 1960, making him about 16 when “The Squire of Gothos” was filmed, and his first film credit was in 1991.
Billy West is also the voice of Fry, Dr. Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan and others. You may also remember him from such voice work as Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy. (He took over the voice of Ren also after John Kricfalusi left the show).
I tried doing that once but lost my Time Traveler’s Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations and thus kept confusing my Future Semiconditionally Modified Subinverted Plagal Past Subjective Intentional verbs with my Future Unconditionally Modified Inverted Plagal Past Objective Intentional verbs and gave up.
So, I have to ask; the thread title, was that an intentional pun? I mean, “have I got a Q,” and, like, the question was about Trelane, who was an energy being and possibly a Q? That was on purpose, right?
hanging head shamefully
Not only did I not know the answer to the OP’s question, I’m not even familiar with the TOS episode mentioned. I’m an insult to geeks everywhere.
I’m going to go put on my Geek Dunce Hat and stand in the Loser Geek Corner, now.
He was still on the show when they brought in John K after he split from R&S. Stern tried to get them into a battle over why didn’t West leave the show too, etc.
