Actually… The Colonists achieved all of their military and political goals, while the British failed at achieving any of theirs. That is the very definition of victory. At no point was “conquering the British Empire” ever one their objectives. The Crown held both technological (artillery and high quality musketry) and numerical advantages, and an overwhelming naval superiority. Britain gave enough of a “shit” to have spent 12.2 billion (in today’s USD) and eight years trying to win it. Historians widely agree that the loss of the American colonies was the beginning of the end to British global dominance. It was a humiliating defeat with long lasting effects.
Seriously. If you don’t intend to have anything even remotely resembling a well-informed debate, why are you here, and not in the Pit? Wouldn’t yanking chains there be more fun for you?
Yeah, the Tec9 was a BIG deal back then. Never understood why. They look like they’d be fun to run a couple boxes of ammo through, but beyond that, I can’t imagine ever wanting to pay money for one. Without a some type of shoulder stock (illegal) that type of weapon doesn’t have much real utility, except maybe as a prop on a gangster rap cd cover.
The Tec 9’s I’ve tried to get running for their owners were uniformly crap. Banning that POS could be construed as public service if it steered prospective owners into buying a better quality gun. WRT public safety, it was a joke.
The ammo I’ve purchased (although I purchased the vast majority of it before Obama was elected) won’t be wasted. It’ll be shot. And it wont rust, even if I didn’t shoot it.
The same thing movie tickets are used for, the facilitate entertainment value.
Is that why there are no illegal narcotics in the United States?
Oh wait…
Actually, flamethrowers aren’t illegal in the United States, after all, they’re the only thing that’s really effective at defending against the birds.
And Grenades are legal, you just have to purchase a 200 USD tax stamp. Bone up on your laws.
Actually, making a flamethrower, a grenade or a firearm is a ridiculously simple procedure.
Anyone with access to even the most basic industrial equipment, like a farmer, carpenter, or anyone who has ever built anything for a hobby, could do it.
Tyrants are very rarely interested in ruling barren land, they want people to do their work, and obey them.
They can’t justify killing an entire town, because the ramifications would be to great. Killing 1 innocent enrages 10 others, and turns them from neutral to hostile entities.
Your idea of “destroy all who disagree, and damn the collateral” is the same exact philosophy which Obama has ended in Iraq & Afghanistan exactly because it pisses too many locals off.
Nonetheless…you admit the existence of people that we may, for lack of a better term, call “gun nuts”. Doggyknees consistently insists that those are the people he is talking about. But you know that he really isn’t, because…you can peer into his mind?
Please assure us that you will only use your powers for good.[/QUOTE]
So, we can yammer on with *any *ugly stereotype about *any *group as long as there is *any *member of that group who resembles the stereotype? And all we have to do when we’re called on it is whine that we’re only talking about the ones who are like that? Do I understand you correctly? Because if I do, that is the most asinine thing I’ve read here in a while.
Actually, no. I don’t care what kind of guns people own, and do not support prohibition of any kind, though I don’t really lose any sleep over it.
I haven’t called anybody names or broken any rules, and these threads routinely involve sneering disparagement of “gun grabbers” and the like. There’s also no rule against disparaging broad groups, like “tree huggers,” etc.
Other way around. The amendment which guarantees the right to the weapons against tyranny is the First, not the Second, as can be clearly seen by looking around the world. There are many places in the world where gun ownership is rare, but where there’s freedom of speech and of the press, and by and large, those places are pretty nice. There are also many places in the world where private gun ownership is widespread, but where there is not freedom of speech, and by and large, those places are hellholes. If private guns enabled the people of a nation to stand up to tyrants, then we’d never have needed to kick out Saddam Hussein, because the Iraqi people (who had and still have plenty of guns) would have done it for us.
No, the rule is you can insult broad groups all you want (and conservatives do it as much as anyone), you just can’t insult posters personally outside the Pit. It’s not even against the rules to be a racist.
Comparisons to disparagement of race or sexual orientation are not valid, by the way, because there’s a difference between disparging opinions and behavior and disparaging people based on irrelevant physiological characteristics. Do you become upset if people insult environmentalists or animal rights activists?
Depending on who you ask, Sexual orientation is as much a choice as a gun ownership.
I don’t say this because I’m “anti-gay rights,” I’m not – in fact, I’m for homosexual marriage.
I say this because it doesn’t matter whether it’s a choice or not. Religion is a choice, and it’s protected. Sexuality is a choice, and it should be protected. The language you speak is a choice, and it is (or should be, if it isn’t) protected.
Yes, I do. Because insulting doesn’t help anyone – all it does is radicalize those who disagree with you and make you look ignorant.
It’s a calculated effort on your part to be as insulting and provocative as possible towards gun owners. In this little mission of provoking anger, you enjoy tacit support of board admin. That makes you something slightly different from a troll. I’m not sure if there is a a specific term for it. Regardless, spare me the disingenuous drivel. If you acted the same towards any other group, except maybe sex offenders, you’d have been banned as a troll long ago.
What a steaming crock of shit. Broads groups get insulted all the time. Do you have a problem with “tree huggers,” yes or no?
Incidentally, not all gun owners are nuts. I’ve made that clear. It’s disngenuous to contend otherwise. It’s like trying to say that anyone who complains about religious fanatics is attacking everyone who is religious.
