This one made me feel good recently.
Over the weekend eldest daughter was competing in a jr. high band competition. I dropped her off around 6:45, and intended to return when they were scheduled to perform at 2:30.
Shortly after I got home, the phone rings. My daughter had borrowed someone’s cell phone to tell us they were running late and wouldn’t start until around 3.
Sure, she brought home a perfect report card last week. Sure, she is a talented flautist and pianist. Sure, she seems to have a great group of friends, yet she still can stand being around and talking to her parents. Those are the big things we talk about and (to some extent) expect. But to get blindsided by an act of consideration such as that makes me think we’re doing something right.
