Braille Notes Player

Sorry if that sounds a bit weird for a title.

Around a month ago, I visited my old ward up in Bucheon. The first speaker was a teenage boy who is nearly blind. To read his notes for his talk, he was using a machine I’ve never seen before.

The machine looked like a small notebook computer but with an extra-wide touchpad. The touchpad was really a bunch of blunt plastic needles. Instead of moving his hands across the page (so to speak), the reader held his hands in place and the needles rose and fell so that the braille text slid from right to left; quite like those electronic advertising banners make it look like the lighted letters are moving from right to left.

Does anyone know what this machine is called?

Braille terminal.

Thanks. The one I saw was quite compact, though. Interesting bit of technology, isn’t it?
