Own goooooooooooooooooooooal after 10 minutes!
Well, as expected, a Brazilian player scores the first goal.
10 minutes in, Croatia 1 Brazil 0, some very lazy Brazilian defending leads to an Own Goal.
Croatia deserve to be ahead, it is quite some sound when the Brazilians charge forward. They are a bit frantic at the moment though, almost asking to be caught on the counter.
Croatia is playing much better.
Here in Buenos Aires you could cut the Schadenfreude with a knife and sell it for pie…
Uuuntil now.
I hope our own first game iswill be a bit more relaxed than this.
What’s the pace like so far?
I’d say Premier League pace.
First time I’ve seen that 10-yard paint used. I like it.
Premier league pace on the first day is a good sign. The only place I’ve seen the paint used is during a couple Brazilian league matches.
The MLS uses the 10 yard paint as well.
Think I heard the commentator saying they were going to use it in La Liga next season. Could be mistaken, I was too busy saying to my girlfriend - “No, there, look, look, right there, the line on the ground, at their feet, no THERE”
29 minutes of the 1st half – Brazil equalizes with a beautiful goal.
Brazil puts enormous pressure on Croatia. Waiting for the 2nd half to begin and see if Brazil can turn around the game. Hope they will; I bet on them to win in my office pool!
I wouldn’t call it beautiful, except in so far as the circumstances made it so. The Croatian keeper should have saved it. Neymar has far prettier goals in him than that one.
Still looking for Brazil to win this, but it’s been a dull second half.
Brazil dives! Terrible call
Penalty against Croatia! Terrible call.
ETA and of course Neymar put it in, although it was almost saved.
Harsh.
The ref won’t enjoy watching that on the replays tonight.
Weird penalty kick against Croatia. I think it was unfair.
Some people were foreseeing that referees would favor Brazil in this WC
71 minutes, 2nd half – Brazil 2, Croatia 1
Some people have said that the referees might favor Brazil during this WC.
Might they be right…?
No doubt that was a terrible call, but I doubt it’s the referees favoring Brazil so much as you end up with subpar refs from “lesser” regions when South American and European teams play each other. That, and a referee’s job in general is almost impossible because three officials cannot make completely accurate calls on a field 50% larger than an American football field. Especially without instant replay.
Complain to FIFA, though, and they’ll tell you referee fallibility is just all part of the drama. Wankers.
