Brasil 2014

OK, now the Colombians can get within scoring again.

Come on Colombia!

Well, I’ll give Neymar that one.

What’s Portuguese for schadenfreude?

Well, that was not expected.

Neymar looked in real pain there, maybe a knee to a kidney? If so, ouch.

Yeah, that was a big knee in the back.

Sort of makes up for all the times he went down for no reason at all.

Crap.

Well, the scoreline probably reflected the game reasonably well, much as i hate to say it.

That refereeing performance, though, was awful.

Too bad for the Colombians. It feels like all South American teams have a mental block when it comes to the Brazilians. I can’t wait for the semi-final between Brazil and Germany. I feel like it will be the real final.

That will be a beautiful (I hope so) semi-final match: Brazil-Germany!

I hope Germany grind this Brazil team to paste in the semi-final.

That was one of the worst referee performances of the tournament.

How many Brazil fouls were ignored? The second goal was of a free kick which should not have been awarded.

Then again, better defensive performance by the Brazilians today, but on the -ve side, no Thiago for the semis and possibly no Neymar either.

Question: Colombia had a goal that was declared null for being offside.

Now, I clearly heard the English commentators saying, cleanly, that the play was offside and had been marked as such 8 seconds before the goal was done. Ie, that the offside call was correct.

Later after the game, it seems some other sports newscaster wrote that the call was not declared offside until after later. This is a different language too.

What gives?

There was no foul given either for the kick that ended up with Neymar on the floor, either.

I saw a few other plays where the other team should have gotten fouls as well. I don’t think the referee was doing anything other than “well as long as nobody stays on the floor more than 5 seconds and/or is too obvious”.

Just a shame that they can’t meet in the final. That would have been the dream final for a lot of people, I think.

Apparently France didn’t see my post.

The streets are strangely quiet. (Well, aside from the usual rush hour honking.) There are plenty of Brazil fans, but not many actual Brazilians, so I guess they decided to stay home. (Or else, nothing but the final is really meaningful to them.)

Let’s see how Costa Rica does tomorrow.

Sure, but the dream final I’m imagining is Germany-Holland.

Fractured vertebra according to all the sport journos on twitter. He’ll be out for a while then.
