Brasil 2014

You’re not worth even a breath, so please stop trying to goad me into any further arguments with you, thanks.

Mexico is playing very well and I don’t think that was a correct offside call… Gotta make it up!!

Indeed that goal should have been allowed.

Cameroon now looking much more dangerous…

Call me a stupid American if you wish, but I will never agree with the offsides rule. At least not without some sort of replay to actually get the call right.

I’m not sure what it says about me that my two biggest complaints about soccer are the way offsides is called and the diving. It’s really hard for me to watch soccer after watching the NHL playoffs and constantly finding myself wishing soccer was more like hockey

Could we please place these kind of “I hate soccer” thread-shitting posts somewhere else? Thanks.

Another disallowed goal. Wasn’t it deflected by a Cameroon player? A more hectic game…

WTF is with the refereeing quality? That sucks really bad for Mexico and Santos.

I take it US fans are smiling.

It was deflected and the right call that time.

Asterion, thanks for sharing that. I live to read explanations of what’s wrong with football, offered by people who don’t like football. It’s really what the world cup is all about. Thank goodness, BTW, that hockey does not have diving or unsportsmanlike conduct, what a miracle sport!

I agree. Croatia had a forward break last night and a Brazilian player tried getting the Croatian in a headlock, somehow managing to stay on his feet, completely slowing down the team’s forward momentum.

Hey, look, I’m commenting while watching the Mexico-Cameroon game. All sports have rules I don’t really care for and I’m not the only one complaining about the quality of the officiating in these first two games.

Even if we don’t agree on how offside is called, can we at least agree that diving should be more harshly punished?

I definitely would like to see diving punished more.

Yes, and post-game if need be.

Actually, I love diving, it’s an essential part of the game and can be beautiful to watch.

But by a Cameroon player, it seems. How can a deflection off a defender during a corner count as offsides?

Next half cabrones!!

Seeing replays yes Mexico should be up 2-0. I hope this refereeing settles down soon.

When you’re bored, I’d love for you to expound on this. I despise it. I think it’s ridiculous when a guy doesn’t even get touched, but rolls around on the ground like his spleen was removed with a railroad spike. It seems like an attempt to have the ref decide the game. To be fair, I don’t like it when American football players whine and cry for pass interference calls either. Just play the game as best you can and let them call it as correctly and fairly as they can. Diving goes against that. But… I am open minded and I would love to hear your perspective as it’s clearly much different than mine.

Sarcasm may have been involved.

I am a big fan of soccer, I record the Premier League games every week, so I am not a soccer hater. However, soccer is a low scoring game, which makes it very exciting, but the unfortunate side of it is that offside and penalty decisions are that much more critical to get right. I can see how it would be difficult to see past this. In other sports the refereeing can affect a game, of course, but I think soccer is more affected by the refs than probably any other sport.
