Yes, the Germans were at three quarter pace in the second half.
I have to say I enjoyed that. I have an intense dislike for the Brazilian team, or rather our football media drooling over them.

Match Statistics (quite surprising)
Brazil Germany
Goals scored 1 7
Total shots 18 14
Shots on target 13 12
Corners 7 5
Offsides 3 0
Fouls committed 11 14
Yellow cards 1 0
Red cards 0 0
Ball possession 51 pct 49 pct
Obviously the Germans were way more efficient with their chances…
And now a funny comment from the commentaries in the BBC website:
“Dayboh Banjo: This is not the real game, this is Fifa pro for Playstation 5 being tested on live television. The guy playing with Brazil in this has fallen asleep on the controls.”
Huffington Post had their best headline ever: WAXED!
You’re not mistaken. No one gives a shit about the 3rd/4th place match. It’s probably the most irrelevant match in football.
Brazil v Germany: I’ve watched football for over forty years and, just when I think I’ve seen everything…
“Football… Bloody Hell…”
Speak for yourself, I’ve liked watching them. I liked the last cup’s Germany vs Uruguay game more than the Spain vs Netherlands.
But it says it all about 2010 that the third-place play-off was one of the most exciting games.
Bwahahahahahaha.
Best soccer day ever.
So watching that with my German mate was kind of awesome.
Oh the joys of being amazed when it was only 3. ![]()
It was a bit of a joke here in the pub as Sweden did exactly that against Germany in qualifying.
The 2006 3rd/4th match was pretty good too.
And no doubt Brazil will be looking to save some face in this year’s third place match.
Ok, they can be entertaining matches, but that’s because they don’t matter. After three weeks and sixty two competitive matches, after four quarter finals and two semi finals in the previous week that totally captivate the nations involved they are an irrelevance.
As the famous British commentator David Coleman once said (commentating on another sport)
“Who cares who’s third?”
Will anyone remember it? The semi-final will be remembered for as long as football exists.
It’s 1:55 AM here. Tomorrow is a work day starting at 8:00 AM and I’m drunk. That’s after having watched the game with some friends and a case of beer and since then trying to comprehend over some more beers what happened tonight. Wow, I’ve been closely following every WC and EURO since 1976, and I’ve never seen a game like that. Unbelievable. A piece of sports history.
But as good and effortlessly the Germans played, it was Brazil crumbling under the immense psychological pressure after the first goal which decided the game. They just stopped functioning.
And don’t be fooled: We will face much, much stronger opposition in the final, Argentina or Holland won’t play so naively. The Cup’s not assigned yet.
Yep, same here. I have had a strong dislike of them after their goalkeeper against France in 1986 introduced a twelve year old amanset to the concept of the professional foul.
I had this match on my mind until Schurrle scored the 6-0. Then I finally started to relax.
I agree with those who say it’s hard to take much from Germany’s performance in this. Were they good? Absolutely. But I bet they are as stunned as any of us by what they came up against. I mean, there was NO defense. They took advantage in clinical fashion and I’ve got serious Schadenfreude going on right now, but Argentina or Netherlands aren’t going to be this dire in the back (like that’s even possible), and actually have attacking threats. This ain’t done and dusted by any stretch.
Interesting here. Ex-Brazil player Juninho says:
But not a week ago everyone was telling us that the Brazilian way, learning close control in the game of Futsal, was what made them so special.
What a difference a week makes.
Enjoy it! It’s a long wait until Sunday, but I’ll be hosting a party.
