Brazil84 doesn't get what's wrong with the claim that majorities of sub-saharan africans are retards

It took me a while to get on the ignore list, but I’m proud to say I persisted.

You’ve passed the b84 intelligence test by proving you’re smarter than b84 (admittedly an extremely low bar there) and have the temerity to demonstrate it to the world.

Congratulations! ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

And 99% of the folks in Africa, even those without internet access or drinking water.

Yawn. Getting on Brazil84’s ignore list is sooo last week.

So it’s “blacks are stupid week” again. Makes one yearn for rape week.

And I thought that the JFK thread was the dumb one this week. Sadface.

Why not? The pun demonstrates infinitely more wit than anything Brazzers has shown.

I still stand in awe at that 6-word post. “Illiteracy is evidence of low intelligence”. It has to be up there in board history as not just one of the most stupid posts but in density of ignorance per word. It’s beautifully concise.

b84 does get mileage from his moronity, doesn’t he?

Brrraaaiiiii…nevermind.

It’s great and all that you always try to be reasonable. Maybe it makes the occasional recipient less defensive, and open to hear what you’re saying.

Here, though, I’m wondering what the ‘vacuum reasoning’ point might be. Literacy is a terrible metric of intellect, unless you want look at those people with such profound disabilities they can’t learn to read. I’m talking profound. The people with Down’s that I know can read, for instance. I would hazard a guess those severely mentally deficient people are about the same percentage of all populations - maybe even lower in areas with high illiteracy, since medical care is also likely to be lacking there, and profound mental disabilities have high co-morbidity with other health issues. Bluntly, in undeveloped areas, people that mentally deficient probably die quick.

Or did you not really have a ‘reasoning in a vacuum’ point in mind? Was it just an ice breaker, like, “You know, the KKK really does a pretty good parade, but I don’t always agree with their message.”

You have an ignore list? ME! ME! Oh Og in heaven don’t forget to add meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I think he means the underlying premise - that literacy is a reasonable indicator of intelligence - is valid. brazil’s problem is that he neglects to have a control group in his reasoning.

ETA: that was @ bup.

A moment’s reflection tells me that is not the case.

I am very tolerant individual, and yet this particular poster seems to me to exemplify the reasoning behind the well established taboo against siblings cohabitating.
That is to say, few people make me irritated, and this one does. Usually, I look to myself for a reason for my discontent, but in this case, the source of the irritant appears to be external.
But, I am somewhat comforted by the presence of others who have suffered the existence of this execrable individual. Misery and company… Cold comfort out here on the borders of the cybernetic web that binds us all together, but better than nothing.

Didn’t have a choice. Told my parents any number of times to put my sister up for adoption, but they wouldn’t do it.

I didn’t want to (further) poison the GD thread, but the illiteracy post immediately reminded me of curlcoat’s assertion that she could tell Mexican immigrants had low vaccination rates because they played in the mud and were dirty. It’s more or less the same type of racism and ignorance.

There’s great value to brazil84’s comments on this subject.

They prove quite conclusively he is not a corporate shill, since he would have been fired by now.

And yet her point is entirely valid.

You can tell if someone has an IQ of 70. 70 is not “kind of slow.” It’s mentally retarded. If you were to find yourself in an entire country of people whose IQs averaged 70, it would be extremely obvious. The country would not be poor, or Third World; it would be completely non-functional and everyone would die in a couple of months or run away. Countries like Botswana couldn’t possibly exist. And yet nobody who flies into Gabarone or Addis Ababa, get off the plane, and spends a few days in the city comes away thinking “My God, this entire country’s full of mentally retarded people.”

You know what else is correlated with intelligence? Multilingualism - and Africans are far, far likelier to be multilingual than Americans. Does that serve as evidence Americans are retarded? I wouldn’t think so, but that’s the kind of “logic” you seem fond of.

That may very well be so, but it misses the point. See below.

Let’s suppose we have a time machine so it’s possible to go back to 14th century England and interact with the people there.

And let’s suppose somebody made the following claim: 14th Century Englishmen were just as intelligent as modern Englishmen and this can be established conclusively just from simple observation.

If I then went back in time to meet these folks, one thing I might notice is that most of them couldn’t read or write. Does this mean that they were stupid? Not necessarily, but at the same time, my simple observations are at best inconclusive. They do not conclusively establish that 14th Century Englishmen were just as intelligent as modern ones.

I don’t know, but simple observation does not dictate the conclusion that their intelligence is as high as modern English.

Why do I fucking bother?

You’ve left enough wiggle room to weasel out of this bullshit but this followup is inconsistent with “illiteracy is evidence of low intelligence”.

The wiggle room? You can say you meant “not necessarily” about Africans.

Then why the blood hell did YOU bring it up in the first place.:smack:

Own your mistake, you racist piece of shit.

That might be true even for the broader definition of “Americans”, wot, i.e. someone who lives in the Americas. Two good-size continents and only four major languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) - just knowing two of them is a major plus, let alone the three or four that Europeans and Africans might find necessary.

I think I was brazil-banned two years ago, incidentally. I can’t offhand recall why, though I doubt it matters.
