The Guardian: Brazil presidential election 2026: first-round live results

Thank you.

So the Fascist revolutionaries are in the lead. Again.

Seems the public hasn’t learned much since last time.

From Aljazeera:

I read somewhere that minor party candidate votes are expected to mostly go to Bolsonaro in the runoff. Perhaps I should wait until the runoff to opin, in case Lula wins in the end, but since there is no penalty in being wrong, here are possible lessons of a Flavio Bolsonaro victory, perhaps inevitably with a U.S. flavor since that’s where I am:

– Don’t run for reelection if you are 80 years old. No excuses.

– Don’t think that a successor to the original strongman won’t win just because everyone you knows says the new candidate lacks charisma, or is a nepotism pick, or is a crook.

– Don’t think that prison is much of a deterrent.

– Don’t think the far right wing project is done just because they lost an election or two – or permanent just because they won an election or two.

And now, with the tally pretty much final, it’s young Fascists 47%, aged Leftists 45%, and 7% for minor parties. So now the first two go into a run-off.

That 7% needs to break almost entirely for the Leftists, say 5% L / 2% F or better, to deliver a leftist win. Which is exactly not the way to bet. Sigh.
