I gotta beg to differ with the “new girl”… an inch is waaaayyyy to long. That would hurt like the bejeezus!
I have been waxing myself at home for about 6 years now (yes, even Brazillian). Every single one of the waxing products I have used (and the technician at the salon the one time I had it professionally done) say that the hair should be approximately one quarter inch long.
Anything longer contributes to the pain factor, and anything shorter makes it hard for the wax to grab on to it.
Hi everyone. IANAaesthetician but I work at a day spa. We recommend hair to be no longer than a 1/4 inch when coming in for a wax. We don’t do brazilians, (tmi for us!), but we do a high bikini. There is a commercial product for shaving bump prevention which we sell at the spa, called Privashave, I’ve never used it, but we are careful about the products we sell. I understand why you would want to know how much you are going to spend, but will somebody please explain to me why the first question asked when people are about to have a painful procedure done on delicate tissue is how much? Why don’t people want to know about training, cleanliness, all that sort of thing? It never ceases to amaze me! By the way, we charge $25 for a half hour of waxing and won’t quote individual prices, because individual needs vary.
Cherry2000 and Gillian, thanks for the correction on the length. As I said, she was new, but I don’t doubt the possibility that I could have misheard her over the loud music (to drown out the screams I suppose ) She had commented on trimming mine down, so maybe she meant mine was too long. I don’t want to give someone who was obviously trying a bad rep, so I’ll assume I misheard.
And, in response to your inquiry, Gillian, I can only suppose that price is prohibitive to some folks no matter how much they’d like to have a procedure done. There’s little use in researching salons or aestheticians if you know you can’t afford it. Still, I understand your curiosity. FWIW, when I called to make my appointment, I didn’t even ask about cost. This was my first trip to this particular salon, but it came highly recommended by a few friends who’ve been going there exclusively. It was closer to home, so I gave them a try. I didn’t think to ask because, having had perms, colors, lex waxing and such before, I had a fairly good idea about the range. Some folks are going for the first time, I guess, so they need to know. :: shrug ::
I believe there’s been more interest in this thread since practically everyone is familiar with having body hair. Not everyone is familiar with bulls, horses and the rodeo. Just a wild guess.
