So I know that I have a totally awesome beef stew waiting for me when I get home, and I’ve decided just now that I’d like to have it in a bread bowl.
Where does one get bread bowls from? I’ve only ever gotten them from resturants and I can’t think of one that will just sell me the bread bowl portion sans their own soup.
Panera and Corner Bakery will both sell you the bread loaves they use for soup sans soup. You’ll have to dig out the middle section yourself (or maybe they’d do it for you, I haven’t asked, actually.) Ask a manager if the counter jockey can’t grok it.
I’ve also been known to use the oversized kaiser rolls from the supermarket bakery. Bit tricky, those, and prone to leakage.
Panera sells soup in bread bowls, but they also sell bread in loaf form. I suppose you could go to one (if there are any near you) and ask if what kind of loaf they use for their bowls. Then cut off the top and scoop out the inside (save for bread crumbs).
I’ll have to check the Panera’s near me to see if I can pick up a few bread bowls. I’d be particularly interested in getting a cornbread bowl for the next time I make chili.
The crust portion is what stops it from leaking I think. I was successful in securing two bread bowls from Panera, they offer them cut and uncut and I think it was like $3.50 for the two of them. Time for some beef stew. Nom nom nom like a motherfuck.
