I love going to a restaurant sometimes and getting a bowl made out of sourdough bread, filled with soup or chili.
What drives me crazy is that every weekend when I make my Costco run, Costco tries to sell me both fresh and frozen clam chowder, with a big picture on the box that shows how awesome it would be to serve this chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. But when I look for sourdough bread bowls in Costco, they’re nowhere to be found.
Argghh.
Obviously, I’m not going to bake my own miniature loaves of sourdough bread. Where the hell can I find a store that will sell me some bread bowls to serve to my family for dinner?
You could experiment with layers of Pop ‘n’ Fresh products layered over an inverted ceramic or metal bowl, but that might cause leakage issues. Or, a lot of stores sell frozen bread dough which you could let that thaw, spread it out, and lay it on the bowls, then bake them. Expect early experiments to be less than exciting.
Panera sells their bread bowls. I don’t think they have them on the menu, and the price seems to vary depending on who is behind the register and how low my shirt is cut, but they’re never more than a couple bucks. They’ll even use their fancy schmancy cutter-outer to cut the well for you if you ask pretty please.
