Yesterday, I bought a package of hot dog rolls. I put them in the freezer when I got home, and defrosted them for dinner tonight.
While we were eating dinner, I noticed there was mold on some of the rolls. My husband ate two, I ate 1 and a half, my son ate one and a half and my daughter only ate half of one, when I noticed the mold. They were small spots, the biggest one I saw was about 1/2 centemeter diameter.
I’ve been looking for an answer to this, but I’ve been unable to find one. Is this going to make my family sick ? I worried about it.
Possible, but doubtful. Small amounts of common bread molds ( and it was probably some species of Aspergillus or more likely Penicillium ) while they may contain some small amount of toxins ( variable in type and amount with strain and species ), are unlikely to be any threat at such small dosages to healthy immune systems. I really wouldn’t worry about it. At most I would expect maybe an upset stomach, but quite likely not even that.
However if you should start showing any worrisome symptoms, by all means see a doctor.
