I understand the reasoning for buying a carwash, but I don’t understand why it has to be that one. Surely, any carwash would do, and it seems that it would be better to have one where the workers don’t know Walt and his history.
[/QUOTE]
Just for the record, the quote you attributed to Sampiro was in fact mine. I think her point was that Walt was familiar with that business, not car washes in general. Mind you, I’m not saying that her reasoning was rock solid. I’m just saying that that was her reasoning.
I’m not convinced that Walt did botch it. Mike beating him is not necessarily a refusal of his proposal. It can be explained by Mike being angry about Walt upsetting the balance of what was once a good thing, getting Victor killed, and now putting him into a dangerous position with an uncertain future.
From Mike’s point of view, Walt had it easy with his job and was being paid a lot more than he was for doing all the dirty work. In my mind, Mike is mad at Walt because he knows that Walt is right. Gus has to go, and it’s probably going to be Mike that’s going to have to do that dirty deed, too.
But yeah, I could be completely wrong, and I love that fact. ![]()
Whoops, sorry about the misattribution.
I guess that makes sense about the car wash. After all, this episode was the first one where a road block to that particular one showed up. I have to keep reminding myself it’s only been a couple a days since Skylar decided they should go with the car wash.
I’m finding the Hank and Marie dynamic to be pretty believable, actually. Painful and heartbreaking, yes, but believable.
Hank’s in the lowest and most vulnerable place of his life right now, and Marie is there for every moment of it. That in and of itself is going to lead to irrational resentment. Also, Marie’s attempts to be helpful and supportive to her husband are actually causing her to behave very differently than she did before. So now Hank has this double whammy: His invalidity has made the woman he married disappear, and this new woman who is somehow both sycophantic and condescending has taken her place.
Complete speculation here, but what if Mike has already killed Gus and quietly taken over the operation? That would neatly explain the timing of his call to Walt (he was is Gus’s house) and that bit of dried blood Mike cleaned off his cuff in the open. It’s also possible to read his comment “You’ll never see Gus again” and the scare-him-off beatdown in the bar as concealing something more sinister.
It’s a crazy idea, and I’m not sure I buy it yet. But if true, it’s to Mike’s advantage to have Walt and Jesse think Gus is still alive…
Hank is wallowing in self-pity, and Marie is talking to him like he’s a baby taking his first steps. She irritated me when he finished walking from the bathroom. A simple ‘good on’ya’ is fine. She was too over the top and a grown man does not want to be talked to like a toddler in a walker. Just because he is as powerless as a baby does not mean he should be treated like one.
That said, she has been very caring and helpful, and though wallowing in self pity, I hope he realizes that she has it hard too.
I never even thought of that! Although, to be fair, he threw the box, the pizza slid out, and a pizza that has gotten cold could/would easily stick together in a situation like that.
I think you are exactly right across the board. Because I think that’s exactly what Mike’s face has been telling us over both episodes, every time the camera is on him. And the directors and writers of BB don’t do anything without a reason, and Mike’s face has been prominently featured, with all that information.
My instant reaction to your first sentence was “Dont’ be ridiculous”, but I have to give it to you for following it with a pretty decent case! I still dont’ think so, but good job!
Marie is totally going to bang the physical therapy dude by season’s end.
Oh, man. Excellent speculation and backed up with proof, to boot! I like it a lot.
Gus is a pillar of the community and owns a multi-franchise business, so his death wouldn’t be quiet for long. Considering how much the drug distribution is tied up with the chicken business, it’s hard to believe Mike could quietly take over.
I agree. It is possible, and he does make a good case for it, but I don’t think so. The blood could be Victor’s or from some other dirty job we don’t yet know about. (Have we seen Saul lately? He did intentionally mislead Mike about Jesse’s whereabouts…)
But my main reason for not believing it is that I don’t think they would deprive us of the inherent drama of showing someone like Gus being killed. Sure, they could always show it in a flashback or something, but that would almost certainly detract from the suspense of that pivotal moment.
I was wondering- not sure what difference it would make plotwise- if “New Victor” is Gus’s son. The most he ever revealed about his family is that (I’m paraphrasing) a man provides for his family even if they hate him for it, implying there’s bad blood between him and his… well, blood, but it’s conceivable he would bring a son into the business to have somebody who is completely loyal to him. (Or maybe his kids just hate him because he makes them eat Chilean fish stew.)
Any idea what size pizza that is, incidentally? I’ve never seen one that size.
Good point. What does Walt think will happen if he takes Gus out? It’s not like Walt is trying to leave the business is it? Wouldn’t Walt have to find another distributor - who may be even worse than Gus?
Giancarlo Esposito was still listed in the credits for last night’s episode, but I suppose if the producers were planning a twist of this magnitude they’d be careful not to telegraph it.
Speaking of Saul, I loved his commercial with the animated plane explosion and “Trauma from Falling Body Parts” inclusion.
You’ll definitely be wrong on that prediction too. Someone posted an interview with Vince Gilligan in either last week’s thread or the preseason thread and he’s big on cosmic justice. One way or another, Walt is going to be punished for what he’s doing.
Has anyone checked out IMDB for the titles of a certain upcoming episode?
If you’ll recall, in the past, we had 737, Down, Over, ABQ.
This season we had, Box Cutter, then 38 Snub and coming up we have
Shotgun
Being a witness for the prosecution in a plea bargain wouldn’t necessarily preclude him from being punished in numerous ways, including jail time. And whether or not he got jail time, he could still get whacked.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Walt gets a shotgun down the front of his pants without Mike noticing.
Also would have been a good title for the episode.
