I agree with the poster above who thought the dead woman was the wheelchair woman. Makes total sense to me, and it obeys Ebert’s rules.
I remember right after the episode where they stole the minivan, people were saying “I want to know what happened to the lady in the wheelchair.” This could well be the answer.
That’s how I read it too. It was the wheelchair lady. They were just tying up that loose end.
The officer was checking on Mrs. Takakuwa (or a similar sounding Native American name). When the officer called for back up he said that Mrs. Takakuwa was dead. When we saw the dead woman’s feet she was wearing house slippers. The woman at the mall would not go to the mall with house slippers nor would the Twins change her footwear.
Ebert’s rule doesn’t even apply to this situation. It applies when we suddenly meet a new character with very little dialog, and says that that character will be important later on. It doesn’t apply to characters we see get killed once we first meet them.
My guess is that we will hear about the dead wheel chair woman in a police report later on. We might even see Tio in her wheelchair, or getting chauffeured in her car.
They already used the van, to take Tio to the meeting with Gus.
