Breaking Bad 5.02 "Madrigal" 7/22/2012

Does that mean Lydia has access to the DEA mole since she also had a list with 11 names?

I think that Lydia, like Mike, was in a position to know from personal contact. The DEA knows because they found the list of offshore accounts.

I didn’t think that the 11 names and the off shore accounts necessarily coincided. Just that the 11 names are higher ups at Madrigal, the laundry, Los Pollos or otherwise associated with Gus in such away that even if they didn’t find the off shore accounts, the DEA/FBI/APD would have come looking for them at some point or another. Of course, I’m usually wrong about this kind of thing.

Also, was I the only one surprised that Mike didn’t leave the diner and say something like “Make sure you get rid of that list”. Can you imagine if my theory is right and the DEA found those names.

So Margolis’s accent wasn’t good for a Mexican? I’m no expert. I wonder about Esposito’s accent. I think he is originally from Denmark.

His accent was terrible.

His accent was much better, but it was still quite obvious he wasn’t a native speaker.

Jesse’s cigarette brand looks like it says “Wilmington” – blue packet with a circular white logo. Never heard of it but I don’t know much about cigarettes.

Oops- I accidentally posted this in last week’s thread, but I think it’s funny enough to share twice. Aaron Paul as a The Price is Right contestant.

It’s a fake cigarette. Googling it just brings up Breaking Bad. Here’s a pack of P-funks.

In the scene where he tells Walt, “I will keel you eenfant dot-ter!” it sounded a lot like a european accent of some kind.

Tio’s accent is awful, and unforgivable as he only has a few lines.

Gus has a ton of lines, but you can tell he put a lot of work into it with a coach. Not enough, mind you, but the effort is there.

Tio still deserves the Emmy because no one else can ring a bell with such menace. Maybe he can give his acceptance speech via his nurse. “First letter, A - E - I - O - U.”

Did you see the video that was linked from that page? Paul was on Leno and Leno showed clips of The Price is Right episode.

Nah, that’s totally true to a Spanish speaker’s accent. In Spanish, the letter I is always pronounced like a long E. And there’s no sound resembling the “augh” in daughter, so the long O is the closest approximation. And native Spanish speakers will also often over-enunciate (as does my girlfriend - she would pronounce “daughter” exactly the same way). So the way you typed it, that’s pretty much a perfect accent.

I just noticed how they foreshadowed Beneke tripping on the rug

One of the accounts was Mike’s grandkid, I doubt she was also on the hit list. Mike apparently was however, making the actual list 12 people.

Well, Mike, not his granddaughter, was on Lydia’s list, but just not the version she brought to the diner.

How?

So, I could have sworn that when Walt visited Gus’s house, there was a child’s playset in a hallway visible on screen at one point. For this reason I spent half the climactic scene with Mike and Lydia thinking they were in Gus’s house and that was his wife.

Was there no such playset, though?

Nah, I think they were the same list. Mike explained that they were his guys, adding that they were very well compensated for their silence in scenarios like they were in. They were paid to keep quiet. The compensation he is talking about, is the money in the accounts that the DEA found and froze. And now that the DEA took everyone’s hush money, they no longer have a reason to keep quiet.

Besides, too much of a coincidence to have two lists of 11 names pop up in the same episode.

When Skylar goes over to talk to him at his house, he stumbles over the rug (and smoothes it out with his foot) on the way to open the door for Sky. I don’t remember if this is the same episode where he breaks his neck, though. I think it is.

After this episode, I think Skyler believes Walt will kill her some day. And I think she’s absolutely right - that’s a big part of what will set up the New Hampshire thing. Maybe Walt will tell himself he’s doing it so he can stay alive or free to provide for his daughter - who knows. But Skyler is very, very dead, and she knows it.
