Breaking Bad 5.03 "Hazard Pay" 7/29/12

Just thought of this : the story is that Walt somehow had Brock poisoned using Lily of the Valley berries from the plant in his backyard. So, Jesse and Andrea both think that Brock ate the berries directly from the plant, right? With that in mind…has anyone asked Brock where he got the berries? One would think now that he’s home and healthy and recovered, his mother would quizzing him like crazy as to where the plant was, how much did he eat, etc etc.

Too bad - would have been an interesting echo to the handjob scene in the first season (bored, looking at stuff on her laptop).

It wasn’t Skyler who said that (although I don’t know if you meant that she did or you just intuited that’s what she was thinking). I originally thought it was Walt Jr. but I checked the clip and it’s actually Walt himself who says, “Everyone dies in this movie, don’t they?” Great foreshadowing there (which I also mentioned upthread).

I understand that. But I also think Mike could have slapped Walt down when Walt pushed. Showing Walt how little he actually knew about the business end and then re-iterated, that’s why Mike handles the business.

Skyler didn’t say anything, no. My feeling was that she understood what that implies about her family, and for that matter it was certainly meaningful that Walt roped both of the children into watching the movie.

??? I don’t remember this. I remember Walt and Skyler getting it on various times, including once that could be an echo of last week’s creepo rapey scene. I believe Skyler said something like, “Walt, is that you?” Back when she didn’t shudder in revulsion to his touch. Good times.

I don’t think he roped them into watching…he was counting down with Walt Jr to when they both recited the line “Say hello to my little friend” so it seemed more like they’ve seen it plenty of times before.

I’m trying to draw a parallel between Walt’s decision to start cooking meth - something he was doing by himself but which has come to involve his entire family - and watching Scarface. They’re all in this movie now. Walt Jr. thinks it’s just a movie and Walt thinks it’s either fun or a reflection of his own life as a drug dealer, but Skyler saw something deeper happening there.

My reading of the scene was that Walt Jr. hadn’t seen the movie before. Walt talking him through the movie and he cued him for “say hello to my little friend,” which would not have been necessary if they’d seen it together a bunch of times.

I think it was in the pilot episode. Skyler was giving Walt his “birthday present” while chit-chatting and bidding on eBay.

It was the first two or three episodes. Skyler was giving Walt an old fashioned with one hand while the other was busy selling things on eBay.

A lot of people are unfamiliar with that scene because it was cut from the pilot for repeats. So unless you watch the series on DVD or through Netflix, or saw the scene when it originally aired, you’re unlikely to have seen it.

Maybe I’m hyper-sensitive to potential problems with any plan they cook (heh) up but when Skinny Pete was buying the roadie cases which were ostensibly for their band, the seller offers to throw in the stenciling for free. Are we to believe that they actually had him stencil the cases? While ‘Vamonos Pest’ is indeed a funny name for a band, wouldn’t the seller find that just a little odd? Or at least remember it? It’s not so much a plot hole as an attempt to anticipate where this little scheme is going to fly off the tracks. While it’s always good to see Badger and Skinny, I wouldn’t let them anywhere near the operation.

I was under the impression that the feds seized their hazard pay nest egg account, and their decoy job paychecks stopped when Gus died and they were arrested, so Mike’s guys were all in trouble financially.

I thought Mike meant that by “making them whole”, he was going to replace the the money in the seized accounts in exchange for them keeping their mouths shut, not paying them for doing nothing for all eternity. Anyone not in jail would be working for Mike, Walt and Jessie and get a paycheck as well as their nest egg replaced.

I’m wondering if Walt isn’t concerned with taking Mike out…but maybe humbling him. Taking out some of the Pollo 9?
He doesn’t know anything about what went down with Chao. I’d like to think that he realizes that Mike is useful and not just an obstacle.

I just watched the pilot on Netflix a few weeks ago and the scene was missing from there too.

That was my guess, but based on the money they made in the first week, they might be paying those guys for quite a while anyway.

I don’t think Walt knows who they are, and they’re all in prison anyway. This would be a very stupid idea for Walt, so I doubt it’s on the table.

So would trying to take Mike out of the equation.
Besides, they aren’t all in jail, Mike said so. It honestly wouldn’t be hard for Walt to use Saul to find out who some of them are.

Jesse stealing a tortilla was one of the cutest moments in the show.

It’s been many years since I watched SCARFACE: does his wife get killed in that?

Somebody has to mention that the CGI closeups of the chemistry of the cook were amazing. So I will. That was amazing.

What the hell was that anyway? Looked like an acid trip.
