A few glasses of wine sure didn’t work. Maybe a little liquor…
Actually, that was the Rio Grande.
It is just fascinating how the writers capture the elements of extreme narcissism in the character of Walter White. The smugness, the belief that they are the smartest guy in the room regardless of evidence to the contrary, the sense of entitlement, the lack of empathy, the manipulativeness. Shooting Mike was an instance of naricissitic rage, IMO. A narcissist cannot abide what they perceive to be a slight to their superiority and will always respond in a revengeful way, up to and including violence. They never take responsibility for their actions and will always shift blame. They never, ever “get it”, that they are responsible for the destruction they leave in their wake. That people leave them because of their behavior, that their increasing isolation is their fault.
No, Walt is not going to be redeemed in the end. He’s never going to accept that all the mayhem and death are because of his choices. He’s never going to feel remorse for any of it.
Narcissists also tend to see everything as black and white in addition to being shameless in how they take advantage of people. Walt has taken advantage of Jesse over and over, but now that Jesse has had the temerity to say no to Walt, he’ll be in danger. People are either all good or all bad to a narcissist. And Jesse is now going to be all bad in Walt’s mind. If he doesn’t actually physically harm him, he will make sure he goes to jail and his life is ruined.
I remember it as them saying that it’s water-soluble, not that it absorbs water (hygroscopic) on its own.
Pretty sure Walt is also using a “burner” phone for all the business.
I actually can see Skyler and Jesse hooking up. It would be poetic justice, since Walt is responsible for separating Jesse from everyone he loves. And Skyler seems to be in desperate need of someone who she can open up to and commiserate with.
The picture that drew my attention was the one of Mike at the diner meeting Lydia. We didn’t see Lydia’s face, but that photo was from within the diner. Was it from a security camera from the diner, or was someone else there taking pictures? Either way, it’s hard to believe they didn’t get a picture of Lydia.
I’m only quoting this bit as I’m in agreement with everything else you said.
But there’s no way that Walt would set Jesse up for jail/prison.
Jesse simply knows way too much about Walt/Heisenberg for that to happen.
It just has to be loose or cracked…no screwdriver needed…I’m always replacing cracked and broken wall plates at my house and business from everyone being careless with furniture, toys, etc. We shall see in the later episodes when Holly gets a little older and mobile IF she makes it back into the house.
Skyler needs more than screwdrivers…more like a piledriver.
If there’s anyone left that Walt actually cares about, it’s Jesse. He’s killed to save Jesse in the past, he may do it again. Granted, he was protecting himself each time also. But I think they’ve bonded in so many ways that Walt wouldn’t sacrifice Jesse unless it was just a choice between the two of them.
Ah, that’s true. Well, Jesse’s going to suffer, but believe it when Walt projects the responsibility for that right back on to Jesse.
I’m still wondering, but it’s not the kind of twist we’re used to seeing. Mentioned upthread, if Mike were alive, Walt would have had to leave without making sure he was dead. Mike may appear in flashbacks in the last episode, or IMDB is just showing all the regular season characters.
Whew buddy…that’s way out there, but since I am pushing for Holly to get the Ricin treatment, I’m not going to shoot down your idea. Even though I mentioned in a link upthread that the actor (Johnathan Banks) was doing his last episode in BrBa, you can never 100% believe is what it seems, even if the actors might be up to something sneaky from the link I gave.
But for Mike to pull off what you claim, Mike would somehow have to anticipate being shot through a window of the car (to break it), and stage fake bleeding in the gut instead of somewhere else on his body.
That’s a longshot.
Alabama Slammer? Harvey Wallbanger?
I am surprised no-one has talked about a very obvious element of the show that by the rules of Chekhov’s gun must happen: Hank has to figure Walt out. I predict the mid-season cliffhanger will be Hank uncovering the secret, and the remaining episodes being the ultimate fallout for Walt, his family, his dream, and finally his soul.
I don’t predict Walt will physically die. Instead, I think we will see the collapse of everything around him and his complete transformation into a new person: the Heisenberg personality. Heisenberg will be a shell of a man, what is left over when a person breaks bad completely. A king perhaps, but one without at throne.
Note in passing: TriPolar and Yeticus Rex are responding to a post by a troll. I removed that post earlier.
It’s been mentioned in many previous episode threads. Yep I agree hank will find evidence pointing to Walt next episode and also Walt will kill one more major character in an effort to prevent that ( which fails ).
I agree Hank has to figure it out before the series ends. I don’t think the light will go on until there are just a few episodes left, but I can imagine him finding something important next week and only half-guessing its significance.
They can easily do 8 episodes with Hank knowing, as they’ve already set up the conflict with Hank’s superior for not dropping the case and the conflict that Hank (unknowingly) accepted Drug money for his rehabilitation. Hank can’t just arrest Walter White even if he does have clear cut evidence.
BTW, does anyone think that actually Kaylee’s money wasn’t taken by the DEA this time around? When the Lawyer was put under surveillance they only got him opening the nine deposit boxes. They made a big point of showing that Kaylee’s was full and wasn’t going to get visited again.
I think it would be a nice tribute to Mike if the very last episode of the entire series shows after the end credits an 18 year old Kaylee opening her box and receiving the money from her grandfather and the note.
A better tribute to the legacy of Walter White would be Walt Jr. dating and marrying Kaylee on her 18th birthday, and then they open the safe deposit box to find the DEA has seized all the money. Yet another way Walt ends up NOT providing for his family after his inevitable death.
I hope that that’s true but most likely the bank has records off all of the boxes that the lawyer ever used plus the teller who likes cake is aware of it as well.
Anybody else notice that when Walt was removing the bugs from Hank’s office there was an odd camera angle that appeared to come from the corner of the ceiling, where a security/hidden camera might be?
Mike was a regular at that diner (it was a joke in that episode that Lydia was trying to hide their identities and be all secretive and then the waitress walked up and addressed Mike by name.
It would seem unlikely since the bank would have records for all the boxes to which the lawyer had access. That said, when it comes to lawyers what freedom would they have to simply open and seize every box he had access too? If the box was in Kaylee’s name and she was technically his client, wouldn’t there be confidentiality issues. That said, Saul did say that Mike’s money had been siezed again.
Shows the nature of the show that a touching moment would be a girl getting rich off of blood money from a cold blooded killer and drug dealer.
Well yes, one of the points of Mike’s character is to show the difference between someone that really is trying to provide for family (and gets out as soon as that’s done) and Walter White who uses that justification endlessly but is really just about ego.
It would be a poignant end to the whole series to show that Walter White leaves nothing to his family, while the dead eyes killer who Walt kills in a pique of annoyance does actually manage to provide for his.
