Breaking Bad 5.11 "Confessions" 8/25/13

Omg omg omg omg

Just to add that I f***ing HATE Walter White

I was a little disappointed that the interview between Hank and Jesse wasn’t more explosive.

But OMFG! I did not see that coming! Damn good television.

“All I could think to do was make this video, in the hopes that the world would finally see this man for who he is.” - Was that Walt talking about Hank, or Gilligan talking about Walt?

OMG, he made Huell!

Where was that pickup location? Those identical concrete blocks looked interesting. It didn’t look like a cemetary. Was it an erosion control project or what?

How did Jesse figure out what happened to the cigarette?

Because he realized that Huell picked his pocket to remove the doobie, and therefore that he must have done the same thing to get the ricin cigarette.

Yup.

And unless I’m mistaken, back when Brock was first poisoned, Jesse accused Walt of doing the exact thing that happened. I seem to recall when Jesse had the gun to Walt’s head, he said something about Huell pickpocketing the cig off of him, ans Walt denying that ,saying it was absurd, and of course, as he was always able to do (before tonight’s episode,) he BSed Jesse and got him to do what he wanted.

So then in this week’s episode, Jesse finds out Huell actually can pick pockets, and can do so pretty well. One wonders if he didn’t happen to coincidentally be holding his pack of cigarettes at the same time if he would have come to the conclusion he did.

Apparently it’s the “Bear Canyon Arroyo Spillway Dam”, per Alan Sepinwall’s recap.

And… holy shit, what an episode. I think that’s the third time I’ve said that this half-season. O.O

It’s retaining wall of sorts. It’s all concrete and the blocks are there, as sill as it sounds, to keep people from skateboarding or biking on it. I’ve seen that in other places too. They’re just huge in that place, probably for aesthetic reasons.
I’ve seen people glue landscaping blocks to the edges of ramps for the same reasons.
In one area on a free way entrance there’s a small area, about 3 feet wide and maybe 10 feet long between the ramp and the freeway, it just happened due the the terrain and it’s about 3 feet of lift. So from time to time you’ll end up with kids skateboarding on it (or trying to, it’s way to steep and the cars are way to close). They finally pulled out the the concrete and put on landscaping gravel and sprayed some kind of glue over it to keep it in place.

How did Huell know to grab the weed? On the one hand, it would have been nice (and in character) for Saul to make eye contact with Huell and do the ‘pretend to puff on a joint’ mime and point to his pocket. Presumably Huell knows the deal with the disappearing guy.
On the other hand, Jesse lit up the other day right in front of Huell and Huell could probably smell it in the office now so he just assumed he needed to grab it out of his pocket.

No. He turned off the camera.

The tension throughout that episode was amazing.

Helluva a good episode, even if my prediction couldn’t have been further off. And I guess there will be a major, major cliffhanger at the end of each episode here on out- except for the final episode I hope.

Saul told Huell to lift the weed when Saul went looking for the bag to put the cash in.

I recall someone (Walt? Although I’m remembering it as a Saul line) saying something like, “Huell? He’s got big, giant sausage fingers!”

Saul left the room to get a bag for the cash. Presumably it was then.

What an awesome episode. Walt making that video confession is a masterstroke.

Huell and the Johnny Benchian Hands.

I’m still wondering over if there was anything sincere in Walt’s performance for Jesse in the desert. At the time, I read it as primarily self-interest, with a touch of genuine concern for the son who does more than eat breakfast. But the AV Club recap points out how Walt told Skyler (in an incredibly shot scene–Walt as shadow): “It worked.” That leaves me thinking it was 100% pure play…

My guess, and thinking about it, it would have made for no drama, was that he was going to say “I’ve made a full confession on tape, you can have it after I die”. I have to wonder if he had two DVDs, depending on how the conversation went. Of course, if that was the case, I have to assume that they would have clued us in by having him make some mention of destroying the other one.

Hank and Jesse are going to be allies against Walt and Todd n his boys, awesome.

Not too sure about that. Jesse’s first move was to go commit some good ol’ fashioned arson (or start to, as something apparently interferes). I don’t think he’ll be able to get over his history with Hank.

Todd and his boys… they’re a wild card, but Todd’s put into their heads the notion of just how awesome this Heisenberg is. Sounds like the kind of man they’d like to have on their team, whether he wants to be or not.

Yes. Genius.

Walt is now officially on the run. He may just return that call to Todd now to have him try to take out Jesse.
