Breaking Bad 5.12 "Rabid Dog" 9/1/13

The opening scene just about killed me with the tension. It was obvious in retrospect that it would be Hank that would stop Jesse, but at the time I was just on edge.

Also, why doesn’t Walt have someone watching Hank from afar? It would give him a heads up if Hank decided to get a DEA investigation going, and it obviously would have let him know where Jesse was. Is Walt just so confident that this video scared Hank that Hank is just not a concern for him right now?

This isn’t really related to this episode, I saw this picture, and I thought after seeing Jesse get so little affection, it was nice to see him get such a sincere hug.

I think it is likely that Walt really lives, or wants to live, as Heisenberg. Jesse knows that his double life makes him vulnerable, and will use that against him.

Possible scenarios:

  1. Jesse spreads the word to any criminal that will listen that Walter White = Heisenberg.

  2. Jesse puts up a Heisenberg front. For example, Todd claims to be Heisenberg.

  3. Jesse deliberately makes a bad batch of Heisenberg meth.

I personally think option 1 will happen. We’ve seen Walt’s house tagged with the Heisenberg name. We’ve seen his neighbors be afraid of him. Word is out.

What would any of these accomplish? How would they help the DEA? The DEA isn’t trying to make Jesse feel good, they need physical evidence against Walt or at least more witnesses. What would Jesse running around town spreading the word that WW=Heisenberg do?

Marie is in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead”.

“Can we please just focus on my feelings here?”

Brilliant!

I still think their was some kind of foreshadowing in the neo-nazis’ bathroom discussion of kids on bikes.

I think we do. I’m not seeing any reason to think these characters would feel that way. They’re ruthless criminals and I don’t think they’re about to go Tony Soprano over the death of a kid. Maybe more importantly, to me it doesn’t feel like something Breaking Bad would do. We haven’t seen a lot of criminal with a strong moral code in this show - which is good because they’re sort of a cliche. Jesse finds the killing of children unconscionable, but Walt will do whatever he thinks is necessary. Gus and Mike were the same way. And in any case the Nazis need Todd because he’s their cook. They just murdered Declan’s crew for pretty much that exact reason.

I don’t know if I agree. After all, Todd sure seemed to think it was in his best interest to omit Drew’s murder when recounting his tale to the Nazis. If he wasn’t sure how they’d react, how can we be sure?

Also, isn’t Jesse a better cook? He could avenge Drew’s death pretty quickly by offering to cook - thus making child-killer Todd immediately unnecessary.

Where Walt/Heisenberg lives is his pride - so a scenario where Walt’s successes are attributed to someone else will be the driver. Todd as a front? Lydia as a big mover? Watching Walt lose his control with a huge, self-righteous rage explosion will be what makes Jesse smile…and likely die. And Jesse’s death will be what signals the final act of this drama.

And Skylar’s big turn sets her up for a big finish - back to Walt and the bacon…the question for me is who dies later - Jesse or Skylar? I vote Jesse, because Sky’s gone dark side and will be seen by Walt as a puzzle piece in his plan, who can be eliminated if need be - Jesse is the one who he still wants to “believe” in him…I think the discussion with Todd’s uncle is premature or a feint…

Telling them about Drew would have undercut his story about their great train adventure. I don’t think he was afraid of them.

What? Jesse’s not going to start cooking again. He knows the human toll of the meth business and it would destroy his ability to go after Walt.

I don’t think Jesse gives a fuck what the DEA wants. Hank might go along with it because it gives him plausible reason to investigate Walt. It is possible that Hank might break bad too and just want to see Walt burn.

I know he won’t cook again, but he could offer to as a bargaining chip to save his life/avenge Drew/get Walt.

No offense, Martian, but maybe you should go out and get some fresh air. Take a walk around the block maybe.
mmm

So… if Jesse knock’s on Todd and Lydia’s door, offering to be their cook, right after Todd has been on the phone with Todd ordering a hit on Jesse, what do they do? Todd doesn’t want to screw over Walt (Todd is the president of the Heisenberg fan club, after all), but I bet Lydia would be pretty happy about the prospect of a 96% cook…

What? But I’m busy right now looking for clues in the titles of all the other books on Hank’s book shelf! :stuck_out_tongue:

(Paraphrased) line of the episode: Saul: “Why did I let my dojo membership expire?”

Did Walt really think he could shampoo gasoline stank out of carpeting?

In thinking about the where-Walt-really-lives speculation, I have to believe Jesse is referring to only A) his ego (King 'o the Meth Cookers) or B) Junior. Nothing else matters to Walt. The question is, which will Jesse target?

Here is a prediction: Jesse gets Junior hooked on meth. Episode title: Flinstoned.
mmm

Cooking but stuff as good as Walt makes (or at least real damn close, which he could do by now) and in service of getting evidence that brings down the whole ongoing concern - which then delivers Todd and Lydia et al into giving evidence to get some degree of leniency. But before that happens the intersection of Todd supposed to be getting his uncle to do another job and Jesse offering to cook delivers some … complications. “Welll, we’d take out Jesse for you excepting he was going to cook for us and the profit that would bring would be more than you would pay. So how about this - you cook as our payment?”

Already did that. A of horse indian cowboy and financial management titles. Thought they’d at least have some mineral books and maybe some trashy books Marie would read.

You think that represents Walt’s *bad *luck? If Jesse hadn’t been spooked by the random guy, Walt would have been caught on tape by Hank. His love and loyalty for Jesse had formed a massive chink in his armor, and just when he should have been on high-alert, he finally had his guard down completely since he couldn’t fathom that Jesse would utterly betray him.

While that scene was going down, I thought for sure that Walt had been hoping for the best, but had prepared for the worst (off-camera) by having that plaza and all its approaches completely surveilled with a button-man on the ready, waiting for the signal. I thought that Walt’s people would see Jesse emerging from the car with Hank and Gomez, and Walt would have to just tearfully leave the area, knowing what he would have to do.

Or, if Walt didn’t become aware that Jesse had arrived with Hank, I thought that he would be extremely weary and careful with his words.

But, of course, I was wrong. Walt had totally trusted Jesse and came completely unprepared with his guard completely down. Had they met, I’m sure he would have gone on to say many incriminating things as he tried to convince Jesse why he had to do everything he did.

No, so far, Walt’s lucky streak is still intact. And even though the forecast doesn’t look like that will continue for long, remember that it’s usually the people around Walt who suffer from his self-created adversity.

Yeah, “getting Walt where he lives” sure seems to suggest that, particularly since it was Walt poisoning Brock that was the final straw that prompted Jesse to vengeance. Walt poisoned the kid Jesse most cared about, what would Jesse be willing to do to a kid that Walt cared about?

Not only do I think that, but I called it in one of the previous threads. Todd’s crew needs someone to put the cook back on track, and Walt is in need of some muscle that will have no qualms killing - a match made in hell!

Um… can I rewrite my previous post, since it didn’t make sense?

So… if Jesse knocks on Todd and Lydia’s door, offering to be their cook, right after Walt has been on the phone with Todd ordering a hit on Jesse, what do they do?

I like this.
