Breaking Bad 5.12 "Rabid Dog" 9/1/13

You’re right, it means no recorded confession. I guess it depends on whether or not Jesse really has a better plan thank Hank’s. I am assuming he does.

I thought Walt really did want to talk to Jesse, but it’s a little surprising he came alone and didn’t have anyone watching the area for him. That was definitely not a smart move (unless Walt has joined a dojo himself).

Wouldn’t this then make Jessie be the one who knocks?

Jesse just wants payback on Walt; the DEA can go fuck itself. I can see Jesse following Walt, Jr. to a mall or something, then sitting down and telling him what his father has been up to, in excruciating detail. Walt’s son is his life, and his disaffection would certainly be hitting him where he lives.

Yes. And his line when Todd and Lydia open and ask what’s going on: “I am the one who cooks.”

(Jesse already is the one who knocks, come to think of it. Remember Gale?)

That was back when he cared about doors.

I don’t think Jesse is going to be out of Hank’s/DEA custody anymore. It’s not like Hank is going to say “Ok, the wire thing didn’t work and you haven’t really given us anything we can go on, so, we don’t need you anymore”. If need be, he can be arrested for attempted arson. Jesse is going to be the pawn in the showdown between Walt and Hank.

Any actions Jesse can take are severely limited by the fact that he’s currently in Hank’s custody. I know it’s necessary for the story that this isn’t the end of Jesse and at some point he needs to have a face to face confrontation with Walt. But for now, whatever plan Jesse uttered to Hank in the car - I think - is going to involve Hank. Walt’s empire means everything to him and I think Jesse means to do what he can to dismantle it piece by piece. Hank and Gomez already know about Todd and Vamanos Pest so now I’m thinking Lydia and the international connection. Lydia has still been pretty well removed from the gory details of the business so it’s high time that she face the consequences of her choices head on.

I think when pressed Lydia will sing like a canary

Nothing.

I cannot see Jesse hurting a kid. Jesse does not like violence against children, not just ones that he cares about but any kids at any time - he does not want them hurt. For him to be ok with hurting Jr. or Holly would be very against character and they don’t have the time to make the changes in the character necessary to explain it. His instincts are also generally non-violent altogether. He came up with magnets, digging a hole to get to the meth heads. When Mike set him up as a test, he tried to drive his way out, not shoot his way out.

Where Walt lives is his pride, his desire to be the best, his need for others to know that he’s the best, and his insistence on doing things the “right way.” That’s the direction I’m guessing that Jesse’s going.

Hank and Gomie haven’t been keeping Jesse on a leash so far. I half expected him to bugger off when he went to the bathroom. He probably could have disappeared in the plaza, if he’d wanted to. What are they going to do, chain him to a bed? I doubt that they’ll be taking him into custody at the DEA, that kind of messes up the whole “clandestine” element of their operation. Hank doesn’t want the rest of the DEA involved at this point. They basically have to trust the guy now.

I agree with all of this, and it’s also true that Hank would never go along with a plan that would hurt Junior and Holly.

The Nazis force Walt to cook for them. He instead brews up a big batch of his crystalline bomb shit and they all go out in a blaze of glory.

Junior has never even met Jesse. Why would be he even believe him? Even if he did, Walt would surely be able to weasel out of it one way or another. I think Junior would take the word of his loving father over some random meth head. Even if Junior checked Jesse’s story with Hank, and Hank confirmed it, Walt could pull some version of the “Hank is the crook” bogus confession story on him (preferably one that didn’t involve incriminating himself this time).

Honestly, I doubt Junior would recognize the truth if it sat on his face.

The truth is pretty incredible.

I assumed he was going to take off when he went to the bathroom as well, I’m sure that’s what they wanted us to think. Maybe that was just to show us that he’s not going to run. He could, but he won’t. Hank just needs some little piece of evidence, something, anything. A threat against someone, an apology for poisoning Brock, a finger print on something that was used to make meth and he can put Jesse in ‘the system’, pick Walt up and charge him and bring the DEA up to speed.

Fulminated Mercury

Though Walt, IIRC, called it Mercury Fulminate.

ETA, I just realized that in Mister Roberts, Jack Lemmon used a laundry as his lab as well. Never thought about that.

I’d really like to hear Badger’s opinions on Babylon 5.

Do you have three hours?

Maybe it’ll be a DVD extra.

Well, perhaps Jesse will go to cook for Lydia, and deliberately fuck it up so that Lydia comes looking for Walt to ask what the fuck is wrong with the guy. Walt, ever the mentor, would perhaps agree to come and show Jesse what he’s doing wrong, and Jesse gets him on video or audio, or sets up a DEA raid when he’s there or some such.

Another item on Hank’s bookshelf was the DVD box set of Deadwood…starring Anna Gunn.
