Breaking Bad 5.13 "To'hajiilee" 9/8/13

Or they could take us back to Marie.

Even with vehicles like Hank’s SUV, which is not primarily intended to transport prisoners, the back doors can be secured by triggering the child-safety switches before shutting them. Seems like this would be standard procedure for those occasions where a prisoner is handcuffed and placed in the back seat. And since Walt seemed to be trying to hide underneath the carpet, he’s doesn’t seem likely to climb over the seat into the front.

But if the SUV’s between Jesse and the gunfire, he could perhaps open the door from the outside. I kind of like the idea of watching Jesse and Walt unwillingly sharing a ride to escape. It will also be interesting to see how Walt gets the handcuffs off, unless someone happens to have a spare key handy.

We go back to the good old days of movie serial cliffhangers.

The next episode opens with Hank and Gomez driving away.

“That was close, wasn’t it buddy?”

“Yeah, I thought we weren’t going to get out of there.”

Voila. Problem solved.

I totally noticed the way he looked at Walt. I even turned to Suburban Plankton and said, “He knows it was Walt who made him sick.”

It was easy to view the scene that way. I’m not all that impressed by the juice story, so unless it comes up onscreen I’m probably just going to ignore it.

Something worth mentioning: to any of Hank/Jesse/Gomey who do survive, the whole thing will look to them exactly as if Walt once again outsmarted them, and the exact reverse opposite of what they expected happened. From their perspective, they show up, don’t see Walt, then he stalls for time for a while, then shows himself and “surrenders”, and then the baddies show up. Clearly that was Walt’s plan along, and once again he was a step ahead. I doubt that in the middle of the gunfight they’ve noticed that Walt was trying to get the Nazis to stop shooting.

(By the way, it bugs me that some people are saying “Walt is evil now, why would he try to stop them from killing Hank?”. Walt has been turning to the dark side the whole series, obviously, but it’s 100% consistent with everything we’ve seen of his character to desire to protect Hank. Heck, he told Saul that very explicitly two episodes ago. He’s done a lot of evil things but he’s not just a purely sadistic heartless monster, and never was.)

And then there was Jesse’s comment about Walt’s luck. Walt doesn’t want Hank dead and he didn’t want to order the hit on Jesse, but he’s no longer able to stop what he’s set in motion. The Nazis aren’t going to listen to (Walt’s version of) reason and draw the lines he draws. They’re just going to take things to their logical and violent conclusion.

Well, Walt (even handcuffed) could possibly reach an outside door latch, if the windows have all been shot out.
Anyway, would everyone stop saying “Fruit Loops”, please? The name of the cereal is FROOT LOOPS. Any connection to actual fruit is coincidental at best.

Jesse remembered the spot as their first cook. He could have remembered that from a distance. As soon as Walt confessed on the phone to Jesse the next phone call from Hank would have been to put a bird in the sky and get back up rolling. But of course if Hank follows tactical protocol we do not have the dramatic shoot out. I just thought given his Law Enforcement background and knowing how dangerous Walt is that calling Marie was peculiar.

The scene with Walt and Brock and his mom (I forget her name) was one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen, despite the fact that there was absolutely no overt acknowledgement of the connections there.

We still haven’t seen how exactly Hank roped Gomez into all of this.

I think in the thread for last week’s episode, people didn’t think that Walt was hiring Todd’s uncle for a hit on Jesse, but this week we found out that’s exactly what he intended. So I think he is pretty much a sadistic heartless monster. Certainly whatever feelings he had for Jesse were gone.

That’s not really an option when you’re working in secret. If Hank were doing this by the book, I doubt they would have gone in alone.

“Hey, I’ve got Jesse Pinkman back at my place. I need you to come by and hear what he has to say.”

Watching the episode I wondered if they could get Walt for having that gun illegally. Don’t know if it’ll matter now depending on how this plays out

Who just happens to be buying some yellow spray paint. “Heisenberg” on the wall was in yellow, I keep trying to think of somebody with yellow paint handy.

Oh, he’s still as gay for Pinkman as he ever was. He only ordered the hit when he felt he had no other choice.

I agree. The scene could mirror Jesse, Gus and Mike escaping Don Eladio’s house in Mexico. Then,Walt agrees to cook for the Todd’s bunch but escapes and goes into hiding.

Also, that’s the second time Brock has refused to talk to Walt. The first time was at Jesse’s house.

Hank was Walt’s insurance policy by way of the confession. If Hank dies no one inside the DEA has any reason to shield him from prosecution.

Excellent point. They’re thinking, “how the hell does he keep doing this shit>”
