Breaking Bad 5.16 "Felina" 9/29/13 SERIES FINALE

Interesting. I think I will start a thread about this on IMHO.

One thing I have always had trouble with is understanding the deal with the Aztek. It has always been an object of derision on message boards; and apparently it sold poorly. But was it really originally supposed to symbolise Walt as a milquetoast, beaten down by life? Or was it intended to be product placement?

I ask in part because I am apparently the one consumer who finds it a cool looking vehicle–both the styling and the colour.

Is was not product placement. Apparently, it was the ugliest car Vince Gilligan could think of. The beige-green color was a custom paint job, to make it look even more bland and ridiculous. The Aztek was never actually sold in that color.

Part of the problem with the Aztek was the original concept was fairly sporty, and while not beautiful, it was much better looking than the plastic clad hideously ugly production version.

And Walt’s wasn’t a factory colour, but a bad repaint in a drab school teacher, cheapest one at the back of the used car lot light green. The missing wheel cover just added to the “I don’t give a shit about what I drive” look.

Anthony Hopkins Wrote Bryan Cranston a Fan Letter

I read that. It’s such an awesome show, and Hopkins really thinks so too.

So it feels like we compared Walter White to every character in literature but I think we may have missed the right one: Satan in Paradise Lost. “Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven” applies pretty well to Walt, doesn’t it?
