Just watched the episode again and still all I can say is DAY-UM!
Where did Walt get the gun?
It was the dealer’s gun, he was crawling to get to it and Walt snatched it out from under him.
I don’t even think he was really crawling for or reaching for the gun. He was just laying there in pain, but obviously still alive. The gun was laying nearby and Walt picked it up and just shot the guy in the head to put him out of his misery.
He’s clearly crawling slowly towards it, and his hand is shaking above it, reaching out, when Walt snatches it up.
Absolutely not. She’s got loads of personal reasons for doing this - it makes her unpredictable. Plus, she’s got only limited experience with fraud. Far better to bring in an experienced crook who’s just in it for the money.
I don’t for one minute believe that Gus would let every street dealer or a crackhead like Jesse know his identity. All it would take is one word from anybody and his cover is blown. And he’s already told Walt several times from the very beginning of their relationship that Jesse is not to be trusted.
I thought the parallel between Walt & Skyler and Jesse & Bizarro-world Skyler/hooker was great.
Is it Sunday again yet?
The meth whore is the same meth whore that Jesse used as an alibi when Jesse and Walt were taken by Tucco. Walt used the fugue state excuse, where Jesse used the shacked up with the whore for 3 days straight doing nothing but drugs and sex, eating only from the vending machine and what not. That’s what I remember of her and Jesse. Plus she’s the same whore that Hank drove by with Walt Jr. in his car, so Hank can show the nasty effects of drug addiction.
She did in fact not squeal on Jesse and stuck by the shacked up story. So to Jesse, she was reliable.
Skyler has a sister, Marie, wife of Hank. That’s how they’re all related.
Speaking of Hank and Marie, hilarious stuff there, the look on Hank’s face as he’s being wheeled out… Just awesome.
Jesse saying no to Gus, that was just spot on perfect, and what I would expect of Jesse. It might not be a smart thing to do, telling a drug lord no, but Jesse’s never been about brains, and he’d got that soft spot for kids we’ve seen a few times. I half expected him to refuse to shake the dealers’ hands even after the “no more kids” verdict.
And holy shit, Walt taking out the dealers. That’s right up there with Hank vs the twins as some of the awesomest stuff seen on TV.
The show itself is the regular length…
“UPDATE: To clarify, the episode actually will run in close to the regular timeslot, since it’s only about 48 minutes long and will get limited commercial interruption. The long timeslot you’ll see in most channel guides is because AMC is following it with a sneak preview of the “Rubicon” pilot.”
Good review.
I’m ashamed to admit I’d forgotten this, as well as Wendy the meth whore from S1. I need to watch something 2 or 3 times for it to sink in, and even then . . .
Have we met their parents? If we did, I forgot that too.
No, I am pretty sure we have not met any of the adults parents, outside of Jesse’s, if he counts as an adult in comparison to the various 40-somethings.
Did anyone else think that the place that Jesse and Walt chose to get a beer was a bit odd? It looked like a 1950s supper club.
Or for a kid on a bike to find…
Nah, that’s unlikely. Although nobody said he was shot and they showed no blood, the TV report called it a gangland execution. I doubt they’d say that about a kid getting poisoned.
I’m gonna use that as an excuse for not remembering that Marie and Skyler are sisters.
Frostillicus, yes, I thought the place looked weird too – all that dark wood and the orangey-brown decor behind the bar – very 50’s. I’ve never been to the desert southwest but I thought the place looked very UN-southwest. Looked more like Pittsburgh, or where The Deer Hunter was filmed.
Walt’s mother was referenced once as still being alive and that he does not get along with her and it’s evidently way beyond her being a cranky old lady. He lied to Skyler about going to see her once, but she’s never been seen. (I thought we were going to see her once- that was the episode where the Twins kidnapped the old lady on a Rascal scooter- but it turned out it was the scooter and the van with wheelchair lift they were after.)
Plus it was ricin, which as mentioned is a slow acting poison.
Jesse said he got the ricin off the internet. I can’t help but think that anybody buying deadly poison online is probably going to be entered into some databases somewhere.
I was under the impression that he got the recipe from the internet and cooked it himself, but that involved a healthy does of assumption on my part.
If you watch carefully, Walt always wears something that’s green. That’s a thing in the series.
This is by far the best series on TV right now. Usually Bryan Cranston steals the show with his fine acting, but in this last episode Aaron Paul showed again why he had an Emmy nom last year. Damn fine acting by him. Should be an exciting finale.
Here’s something to consider: if Walt’s attack on the drug dealers represents the episode title, “Half Measure,” then what the hell is he going to do in the finale, “Full Measure?”
I can’t wait.
“Run!”
