Excellent summary in post #16 Skammer…thanks.
How about the point in time that the half-last season ended though? How much time will the second half need to span to get to the diner scene?

As do Vudu and Amazon Prime.
We’ve managed without cable very nicely by simply buying season passes to the 4-5 shows we actually watch and waiting 24 hours to see each episode. If you calculate how much each episode is costing you by maintaining cable… you might be surprised. After all, there are only 1-2 of these premium-tier shows running at any one time.
Are we able to tell at this point? We know that Walt seems to have retired from the meth business, but we’re not told how much longer he spent building the empire off screen, so to speak, or how he went about extracting himself. We’re also not sure about exactly how much time passes from the time he says “I’m out” and to the scene with Hank on the can.
The passing of time in Breaking Bad has always seemed a bit wobbly to me anyway.
Which birthday did we see in Season 5 during the regular passing of time?
The 51st, then the 52nd in the flash-forward in the diner. So the show needs to get from some unspecified point after the 51st to the 52nd.
(Somewhat off-topic, I’m not sure I’m buying completely that the entire show from the beginning up to season 5 could really take place in a year. Sometimes the show seems to “forget” this a bit as well. In season 5, Walt and Jesse talk about their days in the RV like it was “old times”, but it’s supposed to be just months earlier.)
Nice summary of the three birthdays here. They do seem to be going downhill.
It was a jam-packed year. Remember he was diagnosed with cancer, went through a round of chemotherapy, had surgery (and fully recovered) and went into remission in addition to building his meth business, working for / killing Tuco, hooking up with Gus, working in the superlab for at least a few months, killing Gale, killing Gus, cleaning up “loose ends” - all before his 52nd birthday.
It’s all supposed to be one year, but if you notice things like vehicle registration tags you can see them change from season to season. Also the Mars rover discovering water apparently occurred in the same year bin Laden was killed, according to the show.
Code it like this:
Blahblah.
Then it shows up as:
Blahblah.
The worst long running plot point was Hank’s inability to connect the obvious dots. He figured out Gus was the kingpin from a freakin’ napkin, but when it comes to Walt he’s useless. Let’s compile a list.
At minimum Hank should know that Walt is good at chemistry and they are in dire need of money because of the baby and Walt’s cancer.
The mask and jars were missing from Walt’s lab. Later found at the cook site.
Badger’s description of Heisenberg matches Walt.
Jessie’s connection to Walt as a former student and marijuana supplier. Hank was certain Jessie was involved with blue meth in some way.
The Whites are suddenly rich. Their laughable explanation is that Walt is a card counting genius. I might be able to let everything else slide, but this one is just too much.
Walt drives by just as Hank was on a stakeout to catch the fake Heisenberg.
Walt acting weird every time Hank brings up his meth investigation, e.g. interrupting him repeatedly to ask questions.
Walt’s mysterious injuries and disappearances. And to a lesser extent, his second phone.
Walt’s insistence that Gale wasn’t the genius behind it all and his equations were just rote copying and that Heisenberg is still out there.
Walt’s initials in Gale’s notebook.
Walt refuses to turn into the laundromat and then drives into another car. Said laundromat later turned out to be a giant meth lab.
Hank once lifted a heavy bag for Walt, which he jokingly told him was a half a million in cash.
The Whites buy a car wash, a cash heavy business and perfect method for money laundering.
Walt is flustered when Hank brings up his theory that Fring is behind it all.
Walt acts weird about installing the bug on Fring’s car.
Any others?
This is a complete nitpick, but:
That’s no assault rifle, that’s a M-60 machine gun
Nitpick accepted. I could say I didn’t get a good look at the gun, but really, I’m just ignorant about them.
“It’s for self-defense.”
Well, so much for three hours’ worth of sidewalk chalk art.
And then he’ll have some breakfast.
As someone else said, Aug. 11 is as close as a television event gets to “The Big Game That Shall Not Be Named” for me.
Who thinks the pile of cash is going to be burned (possibly intentionally by Skyler)?
I said this after seeing Season 5 Episode 1, and I’ll say it again:
I believe Walt is going to give the M-60 rifle to Jessie and have Jessie “end it all”.
I predict some kind of a meeting (probably in the desert) with Walt and various other “bad guys”. The DEA will be aware of the meeting and be setup to watch maybe even take-down all participants.
Walt will have Jessie use the machine gun to mow everybody down (all bad guys including himself. No DEA) so there will be closure.
Walt will tell Jessie everything he’s done (watching Jane die, poisoning the kid etc.) to convince him to do the act. Some how Jessie will be “left-out” of being incriminated/associated with Walter so he can continue living a “normal” life.
In the aftermath it will look like Walt’s Empire is done, all bad guys will be dead, case closed for Hank. Hank will probably lose his job but he’ll have closure.
Skylar and the kids will be “free”. I think she’ll get rid of all the money (anonymous donations?) but keep the car wash.
That’s my prediction…

I don’t know about all that, but I do think that Jesse will get a happy ending. Perhaps testifying against Walt in exchange for immunity. Skylar may avoid jail, but it’s hard to see how. More than likely she gets locked up and the kids have to live with Hank and Marie.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: Mythbusters is doing a “Breaking Bad” myth episode! It’s supposed to aire August 10th.
They plan on testing some of the stuff Walt’s come up with to get them out of sticky situations (no they’re not going to make Meth!).
My guesses are:
Any other guesses?
MtM
Burning through plastic handcuffs with an arc cutter made from an AC power cord?
ETA: Oh and that baggie bomb he made in Season 1 that blew up Tuco’s office. I forget what he said it was made of.
