I think Democratic mayors and governors should start up the gun back buy programs - that’s one thing they could do, and it’s voluntary. One thing the federal government could possibly consider if Democrats are ever successful in regaining control of the government is to fund more buyback programs. Fund “law enforcement” programs, but work with Democratic governors and mayors to pay for gun buy-backs.

Sen. Sherrod Brown said he spoke with Dayton’s mayor, who said it was a young white male, maybe in his early 20s. That’s all I’ve seen so far.
Anyone wanna bet he was just really, really upset about not getting tickets to Coldplay or something?
NBC, quoting “senior law enforcement officials” say the killer is a 24 year old white male.

What if they did? Do you think Trump won’t sign a gun control bill if one crosses his desk? I do. Trump isn’t a ‘gun guy’, never has been, and hasn’t shown any affinity for gun rights at all. He’s a New York real estate guy. How many of them think about guns, except that he’s glad his bodyguards have them, and he’d prefer there were fewer of them in the world.
These views are not shared by a lot of his base. I think that his signing a gun control bill would be his version of “Read my lips, no new taxes.” You’d see another incumbent President fail to win reelection. Trump won by getting the right 90,000 votes in the right three states. Even with the improved economy and unemployment numbers, he can’t afford to have too much of base decide to sit 2020 out.
If Trump’s gone, a lot of his policies pissing powerful people off around the world: Iran sanctions, China and Latin America tariffs, opposition to establishing a carbon market or regulation—all of that goes away.
Hell of a epidemiological cluster, all of these shootings.
Me too. Things like that really bring it home how precious life is. I had a similar situation wherein I changed a routine, and thereby avoided a Heat-esque armored car robbery and gun battle.

This is a historical area that became a bar/restaurant district over a half century ago. It’s been the place to go if you want to listen to live music. You can make a night of it listening to different bands within the space of a couple of blocks. Because of the nature of bar density it’s heavily patrolled and is the reason the killer was stopped in the space of a minute.
All this comes on the heels of 15 tornadoes hitting the area on Memorial Day.
Thankfully, we are not running out of Thoughts and Prayers. Lots of those to go around, so everything is peachy keen. It’s especially too early to talk about the radicalization of young white men into right-wing white nationalist terrorism. Too early for that. Maybe let’s never actually discuss it.
This is sick. I and many of the people I know have spent so much time hanging out in Dayton’s Oregon District. One of my closest friends had his wedding rehearsal dinner there. There’s a fantastic record store, and a couple of nice adult stores, and just around the corner one of the best coffee shops anywhere.
This just days after El Paso, and just days after the Gilroy Garlic festival. Right-wing terrorism is the problem in our faces that no one in charge wants to actually talk about. This is Germany in the 1920s and 1930s. We’re all fucked.
Apparently, Betts’s sister and her boyfriend were also killed. I saw a rumor that they were an interracial couple.
