Per current news reporting, there appear to be 2 shooters driving around Midland and Odessa firing at people from their vehicles. At least one police officer has been shot.
The situation sounds chaotic.
I will also note that there was a shooting at a high school football game in Mobile, Alabama yesterday. A 17-year-old shot several people and then turned himself in. At least 10 injured, all teens.
I’ll believe that there were 2 shooters when the police have two suspects/corpses in custody. Multiple shooters is reported nearly every mass shooting and it’s almost never the case.
If this is the 17-month-old who was shot in her car seat, the latest I heard was that her vital signs are stable, but her lower jaw was basically shot off and she now has no baby teeth. This is an injury that will have lifelong consequences, however long her life ends up being.
The mail carrier who was shot and killed for her truck was an identical twin, and working with her sister at the time. The tragedy never ends.
Yep, get used to it. Roadside IEDs, random shootings, violence, carnage…etc. It’s been going on in all those third world countries and now those chickens will be coming home to roost. Just MHO. Not wishing for it, just resigned to the fact that this is the way of things now.
To clarify, I am deeply disturbed by the way things are going, both worldwide and here in the U.S. It’s just that I fear we are in for cataclysmic changes. Ever the pessimist, me.
Interesting parallel. We look at roadside IEDs as barbaric and as a tool of anarchy and lawlessness, with the appropriate amount of disgust. And we should, considering they kill and maim without prejudice, both the guilty and innocent alike. Yet, in this country, we do all we can to protect guns using little more than 18th century logic. But we somehow consider the latter to be superior to the former?
IEDs kill indiscriminately, without thought. Shooters kill indiscriminately, in an orderly and thought-out fashion, so they are semantically preferable, because, uh … let me get back to you on that.
I’m getting really sick of hearing this same story. Where the eff are all these good guys with c.c. guns the NRA says will help save lives? Texas is full of guns. I’ll guess they are hiding in a corner shaking in their boots. They’re watching out for their own ass. They’re useless.
Remember the Umpqua Community College shooter in southern Oregon? As he was shooting the place up, there was a classroom full of guys with guns – who decided to crouch down in the classroom, because when the police showed up, who would know at whom to shoot?
This in no way is justification for the shooting but this started with the police pulling him over because he failed to signal a turn. There has to be more to it than that. Was he on their radar for threatening a neighbor? Did they pull his license and discover past issues and decide to shake him down?
They picked a bad day to pull over a wack-job who just got fired.
