This is so surreal, I flipped the news on to watch the weather only to find the stations all covering this story. One student confirmed fatality, presumed to be the shooter, at least six injured, one with a head wound who has been medavaced to Harborview in Seattle. The school is still on lockdown.
I am talking about a school situated between corn fields and cow pastures. Cow Pie High was how we referred to it back in the day. wtf?
Now there are two confirmed fatalities. Damn.

Amazing that we’ve come to the point where this kind of event goes into MPSIMS. How routine has this become? Despite a few hours of viral coverage at the time of the shooting, MOST newscasts I’ve watched since the initial incident are still leading and devoting most of their air with Ebola.
It will just be more of the same. “Thank God the guns are safe!” “Now isn’t the time to talk about gun control!” “Ha! The gun used was legal somewhere, this proves gun laws can’t work!” “If only the students and teachers packed heat this wouldn’t have happened!” “Registration and waiting periods are absolute proof that you want to grab all the guns!” “Having mass shootings is a price I’m willing to pay for the right to have all the guns I want!”

Hmm. Interesting that this happened just a bit over a week before a major gun control referendum is on the ballot. I’m certain it’s a coincidence, but just saying.
So you’re saying some nut with a gun decided to commit murder for the sake of promoting gun control legislation? Call me crazy, but I don’t think there’s a lot of intersection between the groups of gun control advocates and crazy shooters.
Oh, the right wing conspiracy theorists have been claiming for years that Obama/the “gun grabbers” stage mass shootings in order to promote gun control laws. Often pissing off the families of the victims by claiming that they were in on it.
Another fucking school shooting. Right, these things aren’t even a surprise anymore. Thankfully only a few students were hurt and one other killed besides the shooter, who offed himself. He should have done that first before shooting anyone else.
According to some of the latest reports, the shooter was a really popular kid, which totally bucks the stereotype. Really weird, if true.

School shootings rants are so not about danger to the kids.
It is about abdicating responsibility by the parents and placing the blame on something other than themselves.
We do not blame the cars for the drunk drivers, we blame the drivers.
Why blame the gun for a drunk driver?

But cars are necessary, it is all different. I need to think of the children… Well, the numbers I find say drunk driving kills way more school aged children by nice clean cut law abiding middle American citizens than are killed in school from all causes.

Our two nieces are spending the night with my sister and me tonight. Around one o’clock today, one of them texted my sister saying they were in lock-down at school. We turned on the television to find out what was happening and that is when we learned of the shooting.
My nieces don’t go to that school. In fact, we’re some 65 miles away from it. Yet the district saw fit to lock down the schools anyway. I guess they might have been worried about copycat shooters.
I keep thinking that when we were kids, we didn’t solve (and create) problems this way. How could the world have changed so much in so short of a time?
This specific type of shooting is more common, but kids are actually less likely to commit murder now than they have been in a long time.
A report I heard this evening said that two of the victims were cousins of the shooter.
I wonder why they were having lunch at 10:30 AM?
