In fairness, yes the Tulsi support jumped out at me but he also gave money to Warren and Beto among others.
Clearly unbalanced but I think at the end of the day he is a Democrat. Unhinged yes, but likely a Democrat.
ETA: the LinkedIn account I mentioned above can be found here - Ryan Routh
Same picture as the Xitter and FB pages but nothing political other than a picture with a lot of Ukrainian flags.
He has a unique last name (he’s not John Smith), but fake stuff goes up instantly and it looks like the real stuff.
It does seem legit and you may be right but it’s really early to trust a twitter or FB etc account screenshot. At least for me, I’ve been burned before.
Oh I get it. But they all seem to have Ukraine as an issue he is upset/passionate about. The LinkedIn one in particular is totally non-political other than the picture with all the Ukrainian flags. And it is still a live page.
The FEC political contribution database doesn’t show a record of any contributions made by anyone named Ryan Routh and they’re usually pretty accurate, probably moreso than some random guy with an agenda on Twitter.
MSNBC reporting confirmation of some of the things mentioned by different posters upthread - lives in Hawaii, originally from NC, the FB and LinkedIn accounts appear to be his but no mention of the Xitter. They also mentioned he had a history of posting about Ukraine and may have visited Kyiv at one point.
Also, he apparently has a long criminal history record in North Carolina calling into question whether he should have had access to an AK style long gun.
I think I saw the Twitter account before it was deleted, and there were maybe a dozen or so strongly pro-Ukrainian posts, all from February 2022, and a couple of posts from 2020 regarding Belarus, IIRC.
It was just reported on MSNBC that he tried to fight in Ukraine, but due to his age and lack of experience, they turned him down. He returned to the States to attempt to recruit others who could go and fight for Ukraine.
So far, it doesn’t sound like he got past the picture stage of “fighting for Ukraine.”
It’s nobody’s sniper rifle of choice. Despite Full Metal Jacket, North Vietnamese snipers used Mosin Nagants designed for the Tsar’s army. At four hundred yards even a good shot would land inside 8” from bullseye.
Someone in r/Ukraine says that they are vaguely familiar with him as someone trying to get people to fight in Ukraine, but, not only unofficially, but firmly not allowed. The poster claims that he was told “to avoid” Routh but such a vague construction could mean anything from “don’t bother sending people to him because it’s useless” all the way to “whoa, there are some red flags there.”
Just a reminder that this is a breaking news thread. Even though I’m sure people have political reactions to this news, please don’t post them here. (You might want to start a new thread, maybe in p&e ) There’s have been a few posts already that shouldn’t have been made here. Let’s all try to dial back and stick to the news
