What did you think
I would say at this moment?
When I’m faced with the knowledge
That you just don’t love me?
Did you think I would curse you
Or say things to hurt you
'Cause you just don’t love me no more? Hard Habit to Break - Chicago
I guess I thought you’d be here forever
Another illusion I chose to create
You don’t know what ya got until it’s gone
And I found out just a little too late Separate Ways - Journey
Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched
And went our separate ways
Ben Folds Five’s “Whatever and Ever Amen” is pretty much a breakup album too.
I made a 2-disc set for my buddy when he was feeling down after a breakup. I found that when making the album that some of the best breakup songs are old original blues songs. Those blues’ guys ladies are some MEAN MISTREATERS!
Sugar- If I Can’t Change Your Mind. More of a been dumped song, but if you have been, and if it’s close to what you went through, cathartic weeping will ensue. A sample to make you follow the link:
“Even though my heart keeps breaking,
Don’t you know that I’ll be waiting,
Here for you.
Then when you return…
When will you return?
I hope you see I’m dedicated,
Look how long that I have waited,
If you come back then you will find
A different person
If you change your mind.”
Warren Zevon - She’s Too Good For Me Warren Zevon - Hasten Down The Wind Warren Zevon - Reconsider Me Warren Zevon - Finishing Touches Warren Zevon - For My Next Trick I’ll Need a Volunteer Warren Zevon - Empty Handed Heart Warren Zevon - Accidentally Like a Martyr
As you might have guessed, Mr. Zevon was rather unlucky in love. Lucky for us.
