Your breakup song.

For me, it’s one of two. All depends on the mood.

“Tonight I Want to Cry” by Keith Urban if I’m feeling all sad and whatnot

or

“Cry Me a River” by Justin Timberlake. It’s a pretty catchy tune and it’s all angry and such.

gentle on my mind…the hartford version…

“Thank God and Greyhound She’s Gone”, Roy Clark.

Way back when it was one by a guy named Lobo and had the line
I love you too much to ever start liking you so don’t expect me to be your friend

“Almost Hear You Sigh” by the Rolling Stones.

I always found great comfort in these lyrics from Harry Nilsson’s song You’re Breakin’ My Heart:

You’re breakin’ my heart
You’re tearin’ it apart
So fuck you
Repeat as many times as needed.

“Insensitive” by Jann Arden

“For No One”- The Beatles

And in her eyes you see nothing,
no sign of love behind the tears
cried for no one.
A love that should have lasted years!

Plus it has a great sped up French horn solo. Gotta love that.

So many good lyrics…

Limp Bizkit - “but you might need my hand when falling in your hole / your disposition I’ll remember when I’m letting go of… /{chorus} you and me we’re through and rearranged.”

Garbage - “Don’t forget what I wrote you then
And don’t forget what I told you then
And don’t forget I that meant to win
And don’t forget your ventolin
So a hammering in my head don’t stop
In the bullet train from Tokyo to Los Angeles.”

What Ruby said, though it serves double-duty for me as an unrequited love song.

“Easy Come, Easy Go” by George Strait, too, though it’s a lot more…controlled than one might necessarily feel at that time.

Turn your back on me-Urge Overkill
Fire Door-Ani DiFranco
Fighter-Christina Aguilera

*I Get Along * - Pet Shop Boys

*I’ve been trying not to cry
When I’m in the public eye
Stuck here with the shame and taking
My share of the blame while making
Sudden plans that don’t include you

I get along, get along,
Without you very well
I get along very well.*

Song for the Dumped - Ben Folds Five

It’d work better for me if I were a guy (“Give me my money back, you bitch” doesn’t generally apply in my relationships,) and I’ve never really been dumped, but it sounds pretty acurate to me.

depends on the person and what they did to me.

Tweaker ~ “After All” was really helpful to me in moving on from my last breakup. I had basically felt powerless and a little bit used in that relationship, and that song made me glad to be free.

Sail Away Sweet Sister by Queen.

Take a Look at My Heart by John Prine. It’s the only song I know that goes beyond the normal carping about an ex, and progresses to warning the ex’s new guy about her.

It has been for me.

I have a different song for every break-up I’ve been through. The lasst one was in the summer of 2002, and the song was “Hands Clean” by Alanis Morissette. And I’m really not a fan of hers.

Anything by Weeping Willows, really. Man, someone must really have done a number on that guy.

Dry Your Eyes Mate by the Streets is a recent favourite. I’d have to quote the entire song to display its brilliance, so just look it up. It’s amazing.

But the all-time best breakup song, no contest, is Bob Dylan’s Most Of The Time. He keeps singing how most of the time, it isn’t painful, most of the time, he’s all right, most of the time, he can’t even remember how her lips felt like on his… and he never says what happens the rest of the time.

I love that song !! It is perfect !

Another Keith Urban break up song (I was surprised to find him in the OP !!) is “You’ll Think of Me”

Take your records , take your freedom.
Take your memories, I don’t need 'em.
Take your space and take your reasons
But you’ll think of me.
And take your cat and leave my sweater,
'Cause we have nothing left to weather.
In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better
But you’ll think of me, you’ll thinkof me.

Depends how self-depreciating I’m feeling. But normally, it’s Daylight Fading by Counting Crows. I’ve grown to hate the band and its lead singer, but I still love that song, and it fits my last break-up way too well.

When I’m really angry or down, it’s Nickleback’s How You Remind Me. Helps me recall that I was reaching just a bit too far.
