Bret Easton Ellis' The Rules of Attraction

I just picked up a paperback copy of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel The Rules of Attraction . I opened it to start reading, skipped all the crap on the title page and “other books by” page, etc, then read the Tim O’Brien quote on the right hand side, turned page, left was blank, right said “Fall 1985”, I turned the page again: left side was blank, right side starts the novel in mid-sentence?! No indent, no “. . .”, no nothing, just right into the middle of a sentence.

Does anyone know if this is supposed to be like this, or did one side of one page somehow managed to not get printed on?? I don’t want to start reading this and find out there was a whole page of important stuff I missed, and I dont want to drive an hour out to the bookstore I got it in to exchange it only to find out the mid-sentence start up was an intentional gimmick.

My copy does the same thing, so it’s either intentional or we got the same flaw by some amazing coincidence.

It’s intentional. If you flip to the last page you’ll notice that it ends in the middle of a sentence also.
