Okay, this is a two parter. Years ago, a buddy of mine played a cover version of “Heartbreak Hotel” by, I think John Cale or Brian Eno. I’m not sure which. Anyway, it was done in a not-so serious fashion, with a high pitched whirring sound in it (best I can describe it). Anybody know where I can find a copy of it? I can’t ask my friend as he passed away a number of years ago, and I’m desperately wanting a copy of the song.
The second part of this question has to do with John Cale specifically. Sometime after he and Eno did the album Wrong Way Up Cale did an album with students from his guitar class. Anybody know what the name of this is? I really, really want a copy of this as well. Thanks.
John Cale definitely did a version of “Heartbreak Hotel.” I searched on Google to see if I could find any evidence of Brian Eno doing a version of it, and I couldn’t.
Yeah, I remember that version, it’s creepy. It’s on Cale’s 1977 compilation album “Guts” which is apparently still in print. Eno does not appear on that album.
BTW, a good place to look for discographies and other album info is http://www.allmusic.com, it has a great search function. I never heard of an album Cale did with students so I’ll just refer you to Allmusic and let you hunt it down on your own.
Apparently, it must be as the album cover looks familiar. Don’t really remember too much about it, except for the NPR interview where they played a few clips of it and I was blown away. Thanks for all the help guys.
