My sister once said, “it’s been a heckuva ride with this kid”. She ain’t just whistling Dixie there!
He’s really got it going on. He seems like a great guy, so I’m sure he’ll handle the disappointment of his team losing to the mighty Arkansas Razorbacks on New Years Day and continue with his winning ways after that.
Burn the witch! Arkansas will cower before the might and fury of the dreaded - er, Badgers, small, furry creatures who burrow into hillsides.
But you are correct about Joe - he is a nice kid, if you can call a 6’8", 310-lb. person with a neck bigger than his head a “kid”. He served an internship this summer as part of his degree work, and came out of it saying that if he never played another down of football, he would be perfectly happy doing that for his career. So he has options beyond sports.
But still and all - this skinny little kid I used to play hide and seek with is kicking butt and taking names in college football. Awesome.
But I feel like the punch line to the old joke -
The priest is sitting in the confessional, and someone comes in to the other side, and says thru the screen - "“I don’t need absolution, I’m not even Catholic, but I’m a forty-three year old accountant. Last night I wandered into a strange bar, where I was picked up by two beautiful nineteen year old women who took me back to their apartment and seduced me. Not only did we participate in the most exciting three hours of my life, but I was able to perform sexually with each of them in turn - twice.”
“Well”, says the priest, “if you aren’t sorry, and you don’t want absolution, why are you telling me this?”
I am told Mike Webster played for the U of W-M. He’s the one that got me started in (semi-)serious weight lifting.
My folks, sister, and brother-in-law return from the banquet where the Outland was awarded tonight. Methinks I will call them up and we can bubble over at each other for a while.
My daughter also got straight A’s (again). Remind me to talk about something other than how spectacular the kids in my family are sometime.
Just not for a couple of days. It’s comfy up here on Cloud Nine!
Cool. Hope he doesn’t get stuck in Arizona, which is probably the most likely place, given a reasonable projection of the draft.
Btw, I think you mean offensive lineman rather than interior lineman for the Outland trophy. He’s a tackle, which isn’t an interior lineman (guards, and center)
All the references I have seen refer to the Outland Trophy as being for interior linemen.
But what I know about football you could fit into a gnat’s ear with room left over, so maybe you are right. But I talked to my sister yesterday, and she is just as bubbly as you might expect, both about the award and the upcoming nuptials.
And it does appear at this point that it’s Arizona, here Joe comes. The higher the draft, the crappier the team you go to. Ah well - Joe will turn it around immediately.
Interesting - I was wrong, in that it doesn’t refer to offensive linemen. I looked winners up on wikipedia, and it’s for linemen, period - including defensive linemen, which makes it a more prestigious award, with more candidates.

Well, they certainly need him. And if they start building the lines, they could indeed turn things around.
I know he’s on many Browns’ fans wishlists, but we’re probably not going to draft that high.
