Not working for me. Firefox, Win10, laptop (no touchscreen) with external monitor, SD Light theme. Mouseover works over the poster’s icons and thread count, but no preview over the topic. Restarted Firefox, logged out and back in, no joy.
Well you could have simply typed these letters: “I like your post.” In fact, you did, but added about 50 characters to complain about the lack of a “Like” button.
Hm. I didn’t quote the post I was responding to. Oh well.
.Deleted due to failed quote by me.
I dislike your post.
Another thread on this as well.

Only works fully in the SDMB themes, and does not work if you have a touch screen. Confirmed this by disabling touch.
Found a discussion on dicourse development.

looks like there was an option sometime in the past, but it got removed, and still looking for a working automatic way to get this right.
I was having problems with this, but it seems to have sorted out with no apparent action on my part. Discourse-classic theme, Chrome, Win10 laptop, no touch screen.
See? It works!
I spoke too soon. Mouseover has disappeared for me, no changes to system.
Working for me. Windows 10 laptop, Google Chrome browser.
It works for me at work, but not at home. Both computers running Windows 10 and FF. I assume at some point a cookie or cache or something will get refreshed on my home computer and it’ll start working here.
Since my last comment, it spontaneously resumed functioning.
I still have my touchscreen, but I now have mouseovers too! I presume the developers fixed this, so thank you.
“I still have my touchscreen, but I now have mouseovers too!”
Over thread title and you get the content preview? Or the “Tool-tip” mouseover on the icons and buttons?
I get the tool tips, but not the preview UNLESS I disable touch before opening the board. Then it works even if I re-enable touch.
Running windows 10, set up a little shortcut to enable/disable touch but always forget to use it.
Well, now I understand why I sometimes get the preview, and other times don’t. It’s because I sometimes use a PC with a touch screen. It seems like they goofed – they should have queried the system “is there a mouse or touchpad?”, not “is the screen touch-sensitive”. Even “is there a keyboard?” would be a better option.
I hope they can find a way to make mouseover work on my Win10 devices.
This thread made me realize that the mouse over/tool tips problems I’ve been intermittently seeing on various sites was because the touch screen was still enabled on my work laptop.
I see it when hovering over the thread titles. It looks like it shows the first 200 characters of the OP.
I’m seeing them on the New/Latest/Unread/Top pages, as well as the category pages. I don’t see them on my Profile/Notifications page.
@Troutman:
and this works with touch enabled? What browser/OS ?
Does touch and zoom work while looking at the board?
Asking as the only logic I could find to this was touch-screen detection, and I found some Discourse dev forum threads where it was discussed. Seems they set it up to detect iPads but forgot about other more adaptable systems with touch, keyboard, mouse, pen…
Maybe with the recent iPad add-ons the truth will dawn…
This is Windows 10, both Chrome and Firefox browsers, laptop with touchscreen and external monitor, Straight Dope Dark theme. Touch still works when browsing the board. This is new behavior today; last week I had no mouseover, and I’ve had no changes to my system since then.
Absent a developer commenting, I’m guessing they changed the method used to detect touch screens and/or pointing devices. Perhaps it works better on some systems, but your config is still out of luck.
I have no external monitor. I guess that is throwing the detection ( or making it work properly, choose you preference!).
