I’m against more draconian measures. Actually, quite the opposite. In all prisons, all exercise equipment should be removed and replaced with Barc-O-Loungers. Prison meals should feature lots of rich, fatty foods, with as much Haagen-Daaz as a prisoner can eat. Tough to be a recidivist when you’re tipping the scales at 250 and can’t climb a flight of stairs without wheezing like one-lunged geriatric.
Feynn, I moved to Dallas (Richardson actually) several months ago, before that I lived in Greenville, which is a town of about 25,000. All the cops in that town know my friend, and they do let him off all the time for stuff that most people would go to jail for. I’m sure it wouldn’t work like that if he was in a bigger city, but in a bigger city he would also be able to get away with more because not all the cops would know him, and the density of the police on the roads is not nearly as high (I frequently go days without seeing a cop in Dallas, you see them every time you go to town in Greenville).
Dallas cops also let people get away with stuff, but I think it’s more of them not wanting to bother with smaller crimes. Often if you get caught with a small amount of pot in Dallas you will be told to dump it on the side of the road and carry on - hasn’t happened to me, but it has to a number of people I know. Once I wrecked a car in Dallas while shit-faced drunk, and the cop drove me to a pay phone so I could call a relative to come get me. True, he didn’t catch me driving (someone called the cops after I knocked on an anonymous strangers door asking to use the phone) but he could have AT LEAST got me on public intoxication.
