...Bring May Glowers (Monthly Mini-Rants)

As a native Pittsburgher, proper grammar would be:
“Yinz okay with taking a longer route to miss that slippy stretch along the Mon, n’at?”.

Thanks!
(Cousin Bets, 'zat you?)

Nope - sorry!

I’m headed to a bad place. I’m strategizing with Sr. Weasel tomorrow on how to address it but this feels kinda crisis-y. I’m probably going to take M-W off work, completely cut myself off from technology and try to start to think about how to recover.

I’m pretty depressed but that’s not really what feels like is happening here. I feel like my body is shutting down more and more every day, losing more executive function and ability to withstand sensory input. Noises seem extra loud and I can’t focus to save my life. And I’m doing things so last-minute I’m worried I’m going to miss a deadline for the first time ever. I can’t even focus on my kid. And today was the first time I bathed in three days.

I’m trying not to catastrophize. But this is some heady combination of neurodivergence and PTSD and I’m feeling really unprepared for it.

Please do whatever you need to, in order to get better!

Also, thank you so much! I gave the link you provided to my SIL and she found it very helpful!

Who would be prepared for that?!

Take care of yourself please, I’m glad you’re taking off time to address it.

I live in a suburb established in Victorian times. We have quite narrow streets, and the majority of houses have gardens with off street parking.

Where I live does not, so I have to park on the street. Because, being Victorian and small properties, most of the streetfronts are quite short, so a lot of gates directly on the street. Parking is at a premium.

So I got a complaint from a neighbour that I was blocking their entrance.

Fuck you neighbour, I am parked on the opposite side of the street to.your house. Moreover, I have illegally mounted the sidewalk in order to make space for you.

Learn how to do a fucking multi-point turn, it should not take more than 2 manoeuvres.

With the race being a couple of hours away I decided to go up Fri night so I wouldn’t have to leave my house at dark:30. Given this was a normal pre-(minor)-race hotel night for me & that I was planning on being at the hotel for < 8 hrs I tend to go for one of the more the budget friendly tiers in the major hotel chain where I have points because I’m only there to use the bed & bathroom & there should be some standards as it’s not just Bob’s Roadside Motel. From some of the other guests I happened to see in the hallways it happened to give off a residence hotel type of vibe. I’m not knocking people who are down on their luck but the hallway isn’t the place to park your baby stroller, you could fold it up & place it in your room. I guess the reason that you felt safe leaving it out there was because it was filled with trash; literally their own kitchen-sized trash bag where the kid would sit or to the guy who wanted to bring his keyboard out of his car & into his room have the decency to put on a shirt in the common areas. To the owners, I like Indian food, really I do but please, invest in an exhaust fan in your live-in kitchen because the odor of curry every time I walked into the lobby was overpowering.

As for the race, I saw some old friends the only issue was obviously outside of the RD’s control - the weather.
The rule of thumb when running is to dress for 10-15° warmer than ambient air temps because of the heat your body is producing when you’re running. On the last day of May I opted to race in a long-sleeved shirt; I was not unhappy with that choice. It never got out of the 50°s, + rain, + wind & with almost 1" of rain in the 12 hrs up to & during the race you can only imagine what type of glue it was running thru the areas that were dirt just 24 hrs earlier.

Goddamn, I fucking hate 2FA. Whoever thought of this shit better enjoy their time in Hell.

I was going to leave this month’s thread to someone else but it bugged me that there wasn’t a new one yet, so I started it:

I had forgotten but…June know better!
