Well you assumed wrong!
No I work. Honest.
How about at the UQ’s Red Room?
I’m looking at this, and for the life of me cannot figure out whether you are actually chivalrous or not. And I fool myself into thinking that I am doctor material :smack:

Just found this thread - count me in - a long as it’s cheap, reasonably central ( I am on Bribie) and I don’t have to be involved in the planning - thesis due in 4 weeks -
More people!
I dont’ think the UQ Red Room is such a good idea just because there are only two UQ students coming (as far as I know).
Unless there are any tiebreaking votes (or any votes at all!) I’m thinking the Bookmakers clubs sounds good. I haven’t been there before though so if there’s any good reason not to go there speak up!
Timing, I’m not sure if Fire Engine is going home in the uni holidays but regardless we should probably find a time when everyone can make it that’s before the end of October.
Everyone post when you can free up an evening in Brisbane so we can pick a date everyone can make!
Myself, I’m not doing anything in the next month I can’t cancel in favour of a dopefest.
I’d prefer not to travel out to UQ. October 8 and October 14 are family birthdays. My baby’s turning 7 ::sniff::
Any other day’s fine.
Not going home for hols. I got plans on the 2nd and the 9th. Every tuesday from the 5th, and every wednesday from the 6th. Other than that, looks like i’m pretty much all free.
What is this Bookmaker’s Club? :dubious:
After the 21st is better for me - thats when the beast is due in and the pressure is mounting. However it might be too late for others? I don’t know what the Bookmakers Club is either
Anything’ll be fine… it’s not like if we don’t have a dopefest in the next 3 weeks, the world will explode… or will it? :dubious:
We can have it whenever, I just thought some concrete dates to work with would get people replying faster!
Righto, October is very busy for me. A major project at work is going live in WA on the weekend of the 2nd of October, meaning I will be tied up doing that. Then I will be in Darwin with MaxBabe to attend a wedding between the 13th and 19th. I will, however, have a bit of leave after that (the 20th). On Sunday the 24th I am heading to Bowral (of all places!) to attend an IT conference and will return to Brisbane on the 27th.
So the short answer is… weekends are good, provided they’re not one of the ones mentioned above.
And I second the bookies club. Never been there, but it’s got to be better than Sizzler!
Max.
The Bookies Club? Have you folk lived in a vacuum? It is nothing more than a sporting club- used to be for the racing fraternity- but now is just a general club in Brisbane. Run by Fred Casey, former heavy weight boxing champion of Australia in the 1960’s (if I don’t tell you he will).
Seriously, just a pleasant little club which is handy to everything. Dress is casual, everything is quite relaxed. You can sign in at the door. They have the normal pokies, formal dining upstairs, cold beer, and it is clean. It is a good place not to get bothered.
And Fire Engine, I am chivalrous- even after the Lions got a flogging today. :wally
Unless I’ve screwed up, Saturday the 30th sounds like a date everyone can make.
Brisbane Dopefest, Saturday, 30th October at the Queensland Bookmaker’s Club in Adelaide St.
Ok with everyone? Would people prefer lunch or dinner? I’m leaning towards dinner.
Dinner suits me best.
Max.
Folks,
On reflection, if we are talking of a Saturday (I was just thinking of a few drinks after work- sophistication is obviously my middle name), the Bookmakers Club on a Saturday may not be the best place. Saturday’s are normally pretty busy there, but at this time of the year with the Spring Racing Carnival going into full swing (and that is the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup) I think you would be extremely lucky to get a booking- and it would probably be pretty crowded.
Another venue may be more appropriate. If there is a vote on lunch or dinner, lunch wuld suit me best.
I don’t really care either way.
I’d rather dinner, just because I’ll be studying for exams and a break in the middle of the day is annoying. But I don’t mind really.
I hate meeting new people… but I must get better at it, and this is a good opportunity! And just so you guys don’t get a shock: Goldfish, Fire Engine and I are spring chickens - early twenties and younger.
Dinner suits me better. I am an aged old hag who will be 41 next week. HTF did that happen? Sounds like we’re looking for a new venue. I have no ideas at all although there is a turkish restaurant at Southbank which looked cool.
** auliya ** I know it’s a bitch of a drive but if you wanna dump F here with M, Mr P will babysit. Probably demon sit is a more appropriate term. Referring to my darling offspring not yours. When do the school holidays end? It can’t come soon enough. Mr P currently has 22 stitches in his back (not the 2 or 3 the skin specialist said originally) and has good drugs and will agree to anything. You could stay here if you wanted as well.
Unless there’s more than one Turkish restaurant there I may know the one you mean and it is nice.
Is that Ah Mets?
Anyway, from your posts I think everyone would have picked that we have a great range of ages of folk who could attend. Goldfish, Fire Engine and Burnt Sugar won’t be embarrassed by my putting my dentures in a glass in the kitchen will they?
Oooo Turkish sounds very nice indeed! I’m into that
Max.
Are you sure you picked the right weekend. I can make the 30th, with a little travelling. Usually Aussie dopefests are organised for the weekends I can’t attend (apart from the ones where no-one turns up). It would be a thrill to have an excuse to head north.
