British 80's cop TV-series with British and American cop?

Does any of you British dopers remember that 80’s TV-series starring a female British and male American cop? For some reason I though about it yesterday, but I can’t remember the title or the actors. The guy I’ve seen occasionally in TV-movies, I think his name was Michael something-or-other. Thanks?

In case you’re interested, Brandon is currently appearing on stage in the title role in Jerry Springer - The Opera and does an uncanny impersonation of him, apparently.

Glynis Barber is appearing on stage as Mrs Robinson in The Graduate. There’s some talk about a provincial theatre cancelling the show when it tours there because she won’t be appearing fully nude in one scene (in contast to Kathleen Turner, Jerry Hall and Linda Gray who played the role previously).

Thanks for the interesting follow-up. Times have surely changed if theatre managers want to cancel a show because it doesn’t contain full nudity.
