British patent search

How can I get a look at a british patent dated Nov. 15, 1855 with a number 2581 in the name of G T Bousfield?

The reason is this is a patent pre-dateing the us patent on the Burnside Breach loader carbine.
The author of the book on the carbine stated that the patent was identical. I am interested in the shape of the bullet in the patent drawing. In the US patent drawing the bullet is clearly illistrated, and is a Minie. Dated March 25, 1856 No. 14,491.
From other sources (not patent) the Minie was dated 1854.

any help would be so very apreciated.

The UK Patent Office is at www.patent.gov.uk - but I couldn’t find anything on their online search for what you want, and the website is a bit crap in general. The British Library offer a research service that includes patents, but it ain’t cheap. I’ll see if I can find more information when I get home from work

Could it be this one?

(search via this link - couldn’t find anything more relevant in a quick search, sorry)

The Los Angeles Public Library has a complete collection of British patents dating back to 1617. You can order a copy from them.
