Pretty much this. It happens but in all fairness if someone living in, say, New South Wales gets pissed off about something they are just as likely to bitch about the ‘banana benders’ (Queenslanders) or ‘mexicans’ (Victorians) as they are about any particular ethnic group.
Yep insulting someone is just a bit of a lark, ya dickhead.
If it’s any consolation, you’re all a bunch of convicts to me.
(checking my calendar) Is it 1962 again already?
“XL” at sport? Do you mean people who wear extra large (XL) sportswear?
Just a free clue to a new member of the board: If you don’t spell words out, if you pull that leet shit, people will assume you are an idiot and dismiss your opinions out of hand. This is not intended as a criticism, but just a way to help you fit in. We may not always seem like adults, but we like to think of ourselves as adults, and feel that texting abbreviations are for children.
As for the British, I am glad we tossed their sorry asses out 230 years ago. Well, the ones that would leave, at least.
And proud of it, but seriously we are a country that was founded as a jail. Gave us cheap labour to expand the colonies, laugh at wankers and grow to be a pretty cool country today. This country has been built on the backs of immigrants and will continue to do so. The issue of racism is always there, it is inherent in the nature of humans. We are tribal beings and people who are “different” to the majority that someone lives with can be seen as dangerous.
It is up to the “new” Australians and the older Anglo/Celts to work together to make this country stronger. It is difficult but acceptance is possible and should be our aim, not racial tolerance that is silly. I can tolerate pain but I don’t have to like it, acceptance is at the heart of our multi cultural policies. I accept you and celebrate your differences, just don’t be a dickhead.
you personally did that, 230 years ago ?
xlent !
I don’t assume you are an idiot.
Yes, unlike Americans and Brits, Australian are racists.
In the long run the amount of convicts compared to settlers was miniscule, although at the beginning yes, there were mainly convicts. Transportation of convicts ended about 1850 or 1860. Many of the convicts were simply people who didn’t pay their debts.
It is said of Brits that they only tolerate foreigners. Tolerance is good enough for me.
By the way, Idiocy is not the province of only one ethnic group, there are idiots and there are wise people everywhere. How can you tell an idiot ? he calls other people idiots
what was so great about that war ?
How did this board ever survive without your wit?
Speak for yourself, you fucking East-Coast poofter.
You wine drinking snobs in Adelaide should realise SA is only there to stop WA crashing into the Eastern States.
And the only reason there were never any penal colonies established in S.A. is that it’s such a god-forsaken state and would’ve constituted a cruel and unnatural punishment.
you mean SA is there to prevent the eastern states to fall into the big holes left by the overly taxed mining companies ?
hmmm why did they call it a West Coast Cooler then?
Bloody sandgropers you are foreigners in your own country, go and dig a hole!
Cite? My understanding is that notwithstanding the apologetic folk belief that the transported convicts were sent down for trivial crimes, in fact they tended to be the more serious criminals.
no! the convicts didn’t like to drink Chardonnay. it was strictly rum for them
Yeah, they can fuck off too, isolationist pricks
Well, that’s what I heard from Australians. But if you check Wikipedia, it says that the average sentence was 7 years and after that they could settle here or go back to sunny England. So I infer from it that their crimes weren’t that serious.
I haven’t read The Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes, but maybe there you will find the answer to your question.
By the way the Brits also transported convicts to the land of the free and home of the brave
