Brits tell US to lay off the oil spill rhetoric

Wasn’t going to post this under sleeping dogs principle but since it has been bumped might as well mention your amvbassador apologised, Obama is calling BP correctly and we’re mostly placated.
On a completely different note, this post is posted from a riverboat. Aby SDMB records there?

It’s the nature of capitalism. You won’t get corporations to act in any moral sense at all unless they have to or there is money in it. And they won’t ever have to because, generally speaking in the USA, they buy from politicians the level of law, regulation and oversight they can live with.

So when you whine about how terrible the corporations are, it’s a bit trite really.

Just look at the level of national debt, at the banks, at the oil industry, at Microsoft’s behaviour, etc, etc, etc. They all own their own regulation and legal exposure, at least within the USA.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/22/science/earth/22ander.html?_r=1 It does not have to be that way. Here is an exec that gets it.
The placid acceptance that corporations are and should be beyond ethics and morals is another reason it is that way.

I think the issue for you is your politicians are, and the system encourages it.

Without public funding of political campaigns, it will never change.

Hey, what happened to Happy [del]Drunk[/del] Poster?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say sock. There’s no thread in ATMB on his banning so it wasn’t an accumulation of warnings. Therefore, he’s a sock of a returning poster. Either that or the mods have finally snapped and are banning anyone with a username starting with H.

Look here.

It is not BP or Britain’s problem. It belongs to the Marshall Islands now. If they would have just done the oversight that was needed.

Ah. Well, I guess that could have been easily predicted.
