I am using one of my last posts, (alas, subscription is not an option for foreigner… at least an argentininan foreigner).
It’s 3 AM, I should be sleeping but I can’t. Why? Because finally, I have upgraded my internet connection to broadband.
So now, you have to help me. How? Easy, you see as a Dialup web-surfer, I suffered everytime I have to connect. Now I have time, (at least until they fire me for being constantly late), the means, (that is the holy power of 256k), and did I say time?
What do I need? First of all, webpages to visit, any cathegory because I like everything: Movies, literature and history specially.
I will ask some more questions as I get acquainted, (is that how you spell it? I need a good online dictionary), with my new connection.
A couple of quick questions:
I tried to download Realplayer, but it seems Cecil is it’s owner too because I need a credit card to enjoy it. In consequence I need a good, reliable, complete and very free player.-
I like listening to good radios. Are there any good ones online? I would specially like news or classical music stations (french, english, portuguese, or spanish).
Yeah. As shijinn mentioned, getting a decent firewall is the very first thing you should do, unless you enjoy having your computer turned into a hacker’s crashpad. Hardware is best (e.g. a decent router), but Zonealarm will do in a pinch. Personally, I’m not terribly impressed by ZA after having used it for a while, but most people don’t have similar complaints.
For online radio, I downloaded MusicMatch Jukebox - using the free version, you can access any kind of music you want to, with features such as “Like this Artist” - if you search and find Beethoven, for instance, you can have it “Play this and similar artists”. The only downfall to the free version is that it’s at radio quality (except for the 1 hour of CD quality they give you each day) and there are ads. The fee for upgrading to a subscription is somewhere around $6.95 a month, but again, you need a credit card.
Movie website, IMDB. It’s my first reference regarding any movie-related thing, and it’s the first place I go AFTER watching a movie, to get all kinds of info and answer the questions that invariably arise after a movie for me (what else did that guy play in? Where have I seen her before? Did he just take his jacket off twice?)
Oh, and if you look carefully enough, there IS a free version of Real Player, they just try very hard to make it difficult to find.
They used to, until they realized that everyone and their brother hated them.
Go to http://www.real.com/, click the big orange link “DOWNLOAD REALPLAYER”, then click the prominent bold-text blue link on the lower-right that says “Download Free RealPlayer”.
