Broadband Switch Box

Are there switch boxes for broadband? I don’t want a device that splits the signal, but rather one that sends the entire signal down one of two ways, which is decided by the flick of a switch. Thanks.

I don’t knwo of an actual switch but using a wireless network you could set up different channels which could be changed.

Give us more background on what you are actually trying to accomplish, people on this board are pretty darn good at comming up with entirely new ways to solve a problem.

Why? What do you hope to accomplish?

And what is the physical media type? Are you trying to “switch” a cable modem service, coming in on RG6 coaxial cable? Or are you trying to “switch” DSL service coming in on twisted pair?

If DSL, does your DSL service require PPPoE or PPPoA?

That sounds like nothing more than an A/B switch of the type which used to be popular for CATV. The connectors would have to be different, of course. I am also wondering what possible purpose this would serve.

If you are just trying to route the signal to two different places, you do not need a an A/B switch box. You need a router/switch. Alternatively, you need a router/switch/wireless access point(WAP) if you want to provides wireless connectivity to your location.

Most of the time, people put routers on the output of their DSL or cable modems and feed multiple connections from there. There is no need to split the DSL/cable line itself.

A good, simple shielded A-B F-connector switch box (2 in - 1 out) that can handle digital cable frequencies would do what you want but to what end for broadband? Anytime you have a switch box you have some signal loss across the switch. As others have indicated a router ( around $ 50.00 or so) might be a better solution if you are trying to distribute the broadband signal.
