"Broadway's Lost Treasures" on PBS

The current pledge drive is playing this DVD. The high points for me were

[ul][li]Zero Mostel performing “If I Were A Rich Man” from “Fiddler on the Roof”.[]Vivian Blaine herself doing “Adelaide’s Lament” from “Guys and Dolls”.[]Julie Andrews singing “Send In the Clowns” and looking stunningly beautiful.[/ul] http://www.theatermania.com/content/news.cfm?int_news_id=3750[/li]

This is a DVD I must have.

I found out this was on just as it was starting and spent the whole show kicking myself for not having a tape in the VCR.

According to Amazon.com the DVD is not currently available, which means at this time the only way to get it is to pledge whatever PBS is asking for it. It may become available at some indefinite future date (i.e. when PBS figures they’ve milked all the pledge money they can out of it).

I recently picked up from Amazon the DVD of Recording “The Producers”, which had been a PBS pledge bonus a year or two ago. This allowed me to recycle the tape I had made when it aired on PBS.

I can’t find this on pbs.org or on my local station’s lineup. Was it a “Great Performances” thing?

WTTW (channel 11 Chicago) is having a pledge drive, which means the usual programming is replaced by specials which they only air during pledge drives. These are interrupted every fifteen minutes by ten minute breaks where they talk about the fabulous show they’re currently interrupting and how you can get a VHS or DVD copy of it if you call right this second and send them money.

If your local PBS station is having a pledge drive that will probably be your best, if not only, chance to see this. I have never seen any of these special shows during non-pledge times.
