HBO, in the early days broadcasted some broadway shows. I’m not sure if they are on DVD. I remember a Sherlock Holms with Frank Langella.

Any particular play or musical? Perhaps a genre or playwrite?
PBS (the US Public Broacasting System) sells DVDs of many plays and musicals and classical musical performances.
And in your search for these, try looking for the shift key on your keyboard, too.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s performance of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) is available on DVD. It’s quite funny, and would work well in a classroom setting.
There’s a reasonably good DVD of Pippin available. It’s a bit too Fosse for me, but still a very fun show.
Legally Blonde was filmed last week to be aired on MTV on October 13th. (I was in the audience that night.)
The revival of Company was filmed as well but no airdate has yet been set.
Light in the Piazza was filmed & aired on PBS 2 years ago but I don’t think there is a DVD available.
There is also:
Into the Woods
Sweeney Todd
Sunday in the Park With George
Long Day’s Journey Into Night
CATS
Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Jesus Christ Superstar
Oklahoma
Pippin
Fosse
Victor/Victoria
Pirates of Penzance
Passion
Yes and no . According to the Trivia page, it wasn’t a Broadway production.
