Broccolli

Gonna steam it in the microwave, as usual.
:frowning:
What’s good to put in there with the water, a little lemon juice? Some wine?

Lemon juice works. After you steam it, sprinkle with celery salt. Parmesan cheese is good, too.

Easy casserole: combine broccoli with cooked white rice and a jar of Cheez Whiz. Bake at 350 for 30-40 min.

Try a little Hamburger Helper. Mmmm. That’ll spruce up any dish of brocolli.

May I recommend the stroganoff.

A little butter or chicken broth works wonders. Remember to leave the lid off of the pot when you cook it.

Heehee.

Brocolli’s lovely with a little butter, but what’s even better is white sauce… mmm, white sauce. If you can’t be bothered making any, use Kraft Cream Cheese Spread (I hope they have that stuff in the US too). Just heat it in the microwave for 10 or 20 seconds so it’s nice and hot, and pour it over your brocolli.

My famous brocoli recipe involves steaming it in a pot (kind of boiling, I guess, cause I dont have a steamer) and then soaking in lemon juice and garlic salt, shaking it dry (or drier) and then adding a very healthy dash of regular salt.

Also, it is good raw with salt.

Also, this is good: take the spice packet from ramen noodles, add some spices or hot sauce, and cook brocili florets in the spiced water for as long as you would cook noodles (3-4 minutes in boiling water). Delish!

Also, now I am hungry for brocoli, with none in the house.

Also what else is good with the broccoli/rice/cheese whiz is combining it all with cream of mushroom or chicken soup before you bake it. I like mushroom, myself. That makes the casserole creamier. And sautee some onions and mix that in there before you bake it. Makes it gooooood. That’s one of my most favorite of dishes. I don’t eat it veryi often, which makes the anticipation greater. Mmmmm…

Cooked broccoli? EGADS, that’s just bad. (I prefer most all vegies raw except for the obvious, potatoes and corn.) See disclaimer below.

No, break it apart in little bites, dip with ranch dip.

Great in salad: lettuce (your favorite kind,) chopped cherry tomatoes, a little red onion or green onion, real bacon bits, red or yellow onion, small bit o’ broccoli, chunks of avocado, some mandarine oranges (drained) and whatever other veggies you like. You can also add some roasted chicken. Then add your favorite salad dressing.

The best way is to “blanch” them in a hot pot of plain water, just about a minute (regular cooking, not microwaved.) Add them along with red and yellow pepper and blanched carrots (not a carrot person myself) to some [url=“http://www.colorado-cooking.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=4&topic=2”]Fettucine Alfredo as shown on my site** for a fabulous meal…don’t forget the addition of some roast chicken, yummy man.

Dang, it’s 4:17 in the morning and I am starving for a salad now.

Ah shoot, will a Mod please fix the link…UGH

BTW, I hope that former Pres Bush the First doesn’t see this thread, he might faint.

Just remember, broccoli! can’t read or dress himself, so be nice.

Well I am a dork, that shoulda read, red or yellow bell pepper.

< slap’s self a bit, gee that felt good >

Oh and if a Mod can’t get in here to fix my link, I hope I can do this right:

Fettucine Alfredo as shown on my site for a fabulous meal…

That’s right! And let me tell you right now that he does NOT take kindly to being microwaved!

Sheesh, I had no idea there were so many broccoli lovers…I’m beginning to feel like an outcast! :frowning:

Where’s Papa Bush when you need him???

Best place for broccoli is in the bin.

Urgh.

Fresh, seamed until bright green with Hollandaise sauce it is delicious.
You’ve proabably had that stuff at school or Air Force One that they freeze and then boil for a couple of hours.

Steamed broccoli is also great with baked potatoes, bacon and cheese. I tend to like Cheese Whiz on them, but you can use a regular chedder cheese.

Small bits of broccoli goes great with an angel hair pasta with garlic, parmesan and olive oil.

Oh and there was this incredible recipe for Cream of Broccoli soup. It was an extensive recipe but man if I could find it (it was in the Junior League of Denver’s cookbook back in the late 70s.) If I can find it I will email it to anyone that wants it, it’s damn good I promise.

I found a use for the stalks tonight. Chopped in fried rice.

Broccoli is one of the most perfect foods in the world. Delicious and fat-free. I like broccoli with cheese, or with baked potatoes, and obviously broccoli with butter is yummy. But this is one of those foods that needs nothing to make it more tasty. It’s so good on its own, I see no reason to put anything on it at all. Just MHO.

Hey, did you help me with restoring Winsock last year?

Here’s a link to my broccoli soup recipe over at The Ultimate Recipe Thread. And here’s a decent cheese sauce for brocoli as well.
